magazine ad That Z28 ad copy went on: Z is for 'Zap!' Translation:
a 302 V8 with mechanical lifters, high-performance cam, aluminum
intake manifold. Holley 4-barrel. Plus: multi-leaf rear springs,
heavy-duty shocks, new white-lettered tires on 15 x 7 wheels. And a
Hurst shifter for the 4-speed. While you're at it, why not add the
new 'Vette type 4-wheel disc brakes? By now you know the mean
streak isn't just painted on, it's built in. The Pony Car Wars were
on. Offered here with all its original mean streak equipment (and
an updated 350 cubic-inch V8) underneath a very mean-streaky orange
with black stripes exterior, is a stunning '69 Z28. Showing 62,000
miles on its odometer-just 1,200 miles per-year on average-this Z
is a well-maintained, lightly used example of the car that Mark
Donohue drove into SCCA TransAm history. The exterior brightorange
paint on the car has been refreshed to perfection. The gloss is
high and the surface smooth across every body panel. The bespoke
wide black stripes-unique to the Z26-are perfectly applied to the
hood and trunk lid. The way the stripes travel over the rear-deck
spoiler is one of those styling details that quickly identified the
Z28 on the street. And if the stripes didn't make the point, the
blacked-out front grille, cowl-induction hood, blacked-out rear
panel, and multiple Z28 badges-all displayed on this example in
factory-original condition-would do the trick. The car's 15-inch
Corvette-style wheels, and raised-white-letter tires referenced in
the advertisement (in this case, Performance Radial GT), are
mounted. The silver paint on the steel wheels, the chrome trim
rings, and the Chevrolet Motor Division center caps are all in
excellent condition. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and
undamaged. Chrome front and rear bumpers and limited chrome body
trim all shines as it should. Body-panel alignment and panel gaps
are factory-correct. Inside, the interior retains a similar
factory-correct appearance. The overall theme is black with vinyl
seat upholstery, dashboard, headliner, and cabin carpeting
combining for a classic serious-business look. The factory Z28-logo
steering wheel (with brushed-metal spokes and woodgrain rim) frames
a three-instrument instrument cluster showcasing the 120-mph
speedometer and the 5,800-redline tachometer, with an analog clock
in the center. The four, factory-installed, auxiliary
engine-monitoring gauges are located on the front of the
woodgrain-trimmed console, forward of the 4-speed manual
transmission shifter (here with its ivory-white ball showing the
shift pattern). Stock controls are present on the dash and a
Chevrolet bowtie-branded radio is present in the factory-correct
location. Like the balance of the interior, the door trim-including
roll-up window levers-is in excellent condition with no signs of
inconsiderate use. The car still has its original owner's manual.
Under the hood, the high-performance 350 cubic-inch V8 is a fit
inheritor of the original engine. An induction air cleaner is
mounted atop, with finned performance valve covers, silver intake
manifold, correct Chevrolet-red engine black, and high-flow exhaust
headers visible below. Every surface in the engine bay is spotless;
all components and plumbing are properly mounted and routed. The
car's original data plate remains mounted on the cowl. Viewed from
below, the car's chassis i
