This is the kind of cool cruising classic that most of us don't
even think exists anymore. After all, most 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle
Malibus have been harvested to create raucous SS clones. Instead,
this one has been given investment to stay the premium V8 cruiser
that Chevy built it to be.
This is the kind of vehicle to wow people at every car show,
because it's a straight and clean coupe with a level of vintage
quality we just don't see any more. The factory-correct Champagne
Gold has a great 1970s vibe, but it was resprayed later in life to
make sure you still get a good shine. But what really grabs you on
this one are the details. The gold vinyl roof signifies that this
is a premium Malibu, and it harmonizes with the paint for a true
vintage upper-class feeling. This car was built before new bumper
laws. So those chrome kings not only shine bright, but also they
are integrated so nicely into the overall design. And speaking of
the design, when was the last time you've seen trim so complete???
That bright line that starts near the headlights and doesn't stop
until it joins the roof is a masterful stroke as they highlight the
Coke-bottle curves that makes this design so legendary.
The correct saddle tan interior has a similar golden glow to the
paint and roof. It makes for a well-coordinated look inside and out
that will have you leaving down all the windows on this pillarless
hardtop. And the other reason why you'll want people to look inside
is because of the quality of the interior. There has been the right
mixture or preservation and restoration on the seats, carpeting,
door panels, and headliner to make this feel like a 1970s time
capsule. Even the Delco AM radio is still there for display. While
this was the intermediate size car when new, today that means
plenty of room to carry up to five family and friends with you in
comfort. But even if it's just you driving, this Malibu won't
disappoint. After all, they were built around the driver with
everything from the horizon-like speedometer to the heat/defrost
controls all directly in front of you.
Under the hood is a 307 cubic-inch V8. It looks great in the tidy
engine bay with the bright block, shining valve covers, and
matching air topper. It's not the numbers-matching unit, and in
fact, we have the paperwork showing this had a dealer replacement
unit done within the first few years. So you have a V8 that's proof
of a distinct history. And what you'll really like is the eager
cruising attitude of this car. The motor fires up readily as it
inhales deeply with a four-barrel carburetor. And the Flowmaster
mufflers on the dual exhaust make sure to give you a nice V8 tune
that's never overbearing. Add in the three-speed automatic
transmission, power steering, power brakes, and wide BF Goodrich
T/As, and you know this is the coupe that's ready to hit the
road.
You get all the right paperwork with the sale, including the dealer
invoice, title documentation, and original warranty card. This is a
true V8 Malibu that revels in its premium classic style. Call
