The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro was introduced to the public in 1982. It was the first Camaro to introduce significant technological advancements, including fuel injection and a choice between a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. It was also the first Camaro to be offered with a hatch-back body style and a more aggressively raked windshield. The third-gen shared little with its predecessor other than the F platform on which it was built. The exterior and interior were entirely redesigned with a stark departure towards a more angular, aggressive style. The convertibles were produced by ASC (American Sunroof Company) in limited numbers and marked the first time Chevrolet had offered a Camaro convertible since 1969. The IROC-Z quickly became a cult classic, epitomizing the styling cues of the 1980s and featuring heavily in popular culture.
Originally purchased from Jim McKay Chevrolet in Fairfax, Virginia, this 1990 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 IROC-Z was among the most well-optioned third-gens available for that model year. With convertibles already produced in limited numbers, they are particularly rare with the highly-desirable IROC-Z package. The vehicle offered is finished in Dark Red over a grey leather interior and is equipped with a black convertible top and the 89A decal package. Interior equipment includes air conditioning, leather bucket seats, and a Delco cassette player. The 5.0L V8 sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential and performs as it would have fresh off the showroom floor. This IROC-Z is an exceptionally low-mileage example, with only 176 miles accumulated on the odometer since 1990. It remains in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and would make an invaluable addition to any collection.
