This 1968 Shelby GT500, #101, is a pre-production test vehicle
equipped with a 428ci 8-cylinder Cobra Jet engine with Conelec fuel
injection system. Only one other vehicle has this factory EFI
system. Power is sent through a Ford C6 automatic transmission and
special torque-sensitive, locking rear axle. This car has factory
air conditioning and is presented in its original shade of Sunlit
Gold over a black Shelby deluxe interior. Features include factory
handmade fiberglass parts, pre-production console, one-of-a-kind
rear axle mounting, special sound-deadener, pre-production
taillights and 1969-style tires and shocks. This Shelby has
undergone a fully documented concours restoration by a noted Shelby
historian and includes ownership history and personal accounts of
the car, as well as Ford and Conelec paperwork documenting its
engineering history. One of only two functioning Conelec
fuel-injection Shelbys and the only Conelec-equipped fastback in
existence, this Shelby retains its original identification tags and
was awarded the Concours Gold Award at Muscle Car and Corvette
Nationals.
