Vehicle Description
This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette is the product of a complete ground-up
restoration to meet NCRS standards. It has achieved two Top Flight
Awards, a Performance Verification Award and the coveted Duntov
Mark of Excellence with a final score of 98.6. The car was
purchased in July 2010 from a gentleman who had owned it since
1971. It was in good restorable condition and retained the original
paint. The options included 4-speed manual transmission, deluxe
heater, Wonder Bar radio, parking brake alarm, courtesy light and
folding top. After the car was purchased, local NCRS members were
asked to examine the car and advise on its restoration. They
strongly recommended a ground-up restoration to NCRS standards due
to its good overall condition and the amount of original parts that
were present. The project began in July 2010 and was completed it
in April 2012. It was completely disassembled, about 75 pictures
were taken and notes made documenting fasteners, inspection marks,
etc. A body dolly was constructed out of 1.5-inch square tubing to
use for body work and painting. All the fasteners were sent out for
replating, all chrome components were re-chromed and stainless
parts polished. The 283/230hp 8-cylinder engine was sent out for
machining and the current owner did the final assembly. The frame
and all black steel parts were powder-coated in satin black for a
lasting restoration. The bodywork was completed and PPG DDL Acrylic
Lacquer (as originally used in 1959) was used for topcoating. The
paint was carefully cut and buffed to replicate the original
finish, showing some degree of orange peel. Out of a possible 350
points only one point was ever deducted for paint. This Corvette
has approximately 200 miles since the completion of its
restoration. **SOLD AS A PAIR WITH LOT #1419**
