Vehicle Description
The original Trim Tag indicates this car was built in Norwood, OH,
on the first week of May as a Rally Green 1969 Camaro Z/28 with a
black interior. The NCRS Shipping Data Report indicates the GM
official production date was May 12, 1969, and the car was shipped
to Weed Chevrolet in Bristol, PA. As the original warranty
Protect-O-Plate indicates, this car was sold to Americo A.
Libertore Jr. on June 9, 1969, by Weed Chevrolet (Libertore Jr.
worked for Weed Chevrolet as a mechanic). This was the only 1969
Camaro Z/28 sold at Weed Chevrolet. Libertore Jr. drove the car a
total of 469 miles before disconnecting the speedometer as it was
set up to run NHRA's Stock Eliminator Class. From that point until
now it only had race miles. In 1970, Liberatore Jr. teamed up with
nationally known Tony Pizzi, who was a successful racer. Pizzi's
reputation developed through his involvement with Bill Jenkins
during the late 1960s. The car was campaigned through Weed
Chevrolet and Tony Pizzi Automotive. A decision was made to change
classes to B/Stock, so a Tony Pizzi Automotive-prepped 396/375hp
L78 engine was installed. Eventually this car developed a very good
reputation and became one of the fastest B/Stock Camaros in the
country. In 1971, this car made it to the final in class
eliminations at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN -
considered the "Super Bowl" of drag racing. With racing success
came several magazine articles on the car. One such article was in
the April 1972 issue of Super Stock and Drag Illustrated magazine.
As quoted from this article, "Presently holding both ends of the
record at 11.35 - 122.78, the car has recorded a best of 10.99 at
over 127 mph in legal trim and with 7-inch tires. Backup for this
run was an equally strong 11.02." This Z/28 was eventually retired
from racing around 1974. It sat in Liberatore Jr.'s garage until
September 2018, when he sold the car to a gentleman who lived in
Downington, PA. Part of the negotiation process was that Libertore
Jr. would do a "Statement Under Oath" report to document the
history. This was completed September 21, 2018, by Blum-Moore
Reporting Services in Doylestown, PA. The second owner did a
show-quality rotisserie restoration that was completed in 2020. The
body retains most of the original sheet metal with exception of the
rear quarters. The car was finished in its original exterior color
of Rally Green. The paint work is beautiful and magnetic decals
were made to replicate the original racing decals. Everything on
the exterior has been restored or replaced including all-new glass.
The car sits on new Firestone Sport Car 200 E70-15 tires. It
retains most of its original black interior, which is in beautiful
condition throughout. Some of the original interior pieces include
the dash, gauges, steering wheel, seats and seat belts. The door
panels and carpeting were replaced new. The trunk compartment was
nicely restored. It retains the original spare wheel and tire. The
engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. It retains the
original matching-numbers DZ 302ci V8 engine that was completely
rebuilt and runs excellent. The engine is coupled to the original
M21 4-speed manual transmission. The undercarriage is also highly
detailed throughout. This car was certified by Camaro expert Jerry
MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance on May 21, 2020. The NCRS
Shipping Data Report, original Protect-O-Plate, original dealer
keychain, original owner's "Statement Under Oath" report, Super
Stock and Drag Illustrated April 1972 magazine, Jerry MacNeish's
report, miscellaneous original parts and show boards are included.
The vehicle now has 483 actual street miles. This vehicle has been
recently serviced, which is documented with an invoice. From the MS
