Vehicle Description
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is a one-owner example that has
been treated to a frame-off restoration to as-new condition.
Documented with the original Window Sticker and Build Sheets, it
was built in the second week of November 1969 at the Van Nuys, CA,
assembly plant and sold new at Paramount Chevrolet in Downey, CA.
In addition to its original L34 402/350hp big-block V8 engine (the
396 designation was retained as an established marketing asset),
the Super Sport includes features such as a cowl-induction hood,
blacked-out front grille and black rear bumper insert panel, bright
wheel arch moldings, SS badging inside and out, 5-spoke SS wheels,
raised-white-letter tires and bright engine accents. In addition,
there is the F41 special suspension, power front disc brakes and a
special instrument panel with round-faced gauges. As chronicled on
the Build Sheets and Window Sticker, this SS 396 was ordered with a
heavy dose of options, including Four Seasons air conditioning,
Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission, tilt steering column, Soft
Ray tinted glass, power windows and an AM/FM radio with rear
speaker. The original body panels are finished in correct Cranberry
Red paint accented by black sport stripes and a black bench seat
interior. With 52,727 actual miles on the odometer (the title reads
mileage exempt), it retains the original front brake rotors and
calipers and rear drums while incorporating new stainless-steel
fuel and brake lines for maximum service life. A first-rate
restoration performed with great care for authenticity, this is a
fine example of Chevrolet's classic big-block Chevelle Super Sport.
