Vehicle Description
A great deal of thought and attention to detail was put into this
all-steel 1928 Ford Model A surf wagon. Powered by a 350ci
Chevrolet V8 engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission, it
was built by a professional hot rod shop. The steel lower panels
are finished in Hugger Orange, and the upper body is fabricated
from steel tubing covered in bamboo sheathing and custom-weaved
bamboo panels. The roof is covered in a removable canvas top, and
the interior features custom wood paneling and a fabricated front
bench seat. Equipment includes 4-wheel disc brakes, rear coilover
suspension, and a dropped axle and transverse leaf spring on the
front suspension. This custom Woody is offered with the surfboards.
The steel fenders, running boards, aprons, cowl, hood, headlight
buckets and grille surround were refinished in Chevrolet Hugger
Orange as part of the build. The floors were custom-fabricated,
bead-rolled and powder-coated. Factory chrome bumpers are mounted
on custom powder-coated brackets, and the windshield visor and rear
roll pan were custom-fabricated from steel. The upper body was
fabricated from 1.125x0.090 mild steel tubing and sheathed in
bamboo that was coated in satin acrylic and fastened with sheet
metal screws. The Model A frame was Z-ed in the rear and
powder-coated, and features split wishbones in the front and rear,
coilover springs on the rear, and a transverse leaf and dropped
Ford solid axle on the front. The 4-wheel-disc braking system uses
GM calipers and rotors on the front and Ford Mustang 4-piston
calipers with race-style rotors on the rear. Brake system plumbing
was fabricated using stainless hard lines with braided stainless
hoses and AN-style fittings. The interior features a
custom-fabricated front seat covered in a woven blanket, along with
wood paneling on the doors and rear body sections and a steel dash
top custom-painted to mimic wood grain. The roof covering was
custom-made from Stayfast canvas by a professional in Lakeside, CA,
and installs via snaps along each perimeter top rail. A chrome
surround houses VDO instruments, including a 120-mph speedometer
and gauges for oil pressure, battery voltage and water temperature.
A matching "petrol" level gauge is housed below the paint-matched
steel dash panel. The odometer shows 3,859 actual miles (mileage
not indicated on the title), though less than 500 miles have been
added since the project's completion. The 350ci Chevrolet
small-block V8 engine is equipped with dual-quad carburetors and is
mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission.
Additional equipment includes AN fuel fittings, a Mallory
distributor, and custom-fabricated polished stainless headers
exiting on top of the front fenders with removable baffles. **SOLD
