This one-owner 1996 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 was a magazine cover
car and has 2,105 actual miles. It was sold new by Bell Ford of
Phoenix, AZ,, and subsequently modified with a supercharged
5.4-liter V8 crate engine from a 2007 Shelby GT500, Baer brakes,
351 R-code front springs, a BBK X-pipe exhaust system and custom
interior upholstery. Additional equipment includes a 5-speed manual
transmission, roll bar, smoked lens covers and chrome Saleen
wheels. The car is finished in black with airbrushed silver
graphics and a power-operated black soft-top. Exterior features
include a custom 5-inch cowl hood, a hard Speedster-style rear
tonneau cover, a rear spoiler, smoked lights and tinted windows.
The interior is trimmed in custom black leather upholstery with
gray suede accents and headliner. Equipment includes a factory
stereo, air conditioning, power windows, a polished shift knob and
emergency brake handle, and a fire extinguisher mounted in the
passenger footwell. The trunk also features custom leather and
suede upholstery and houses a Snap-On toolkit. Saleen insignia
appear on the headrests and dash, and a plaque showing serial
number 96-0323 is affixed to the center stack. White
instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and
gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure and
voltage. Boost and fuel pressure readouts are located in a pod atop
the dash. The supercharged 5.4-liter V8 was purchased new in 2007
and installed with a custom radiator, heat exchanger and cold-air
induction system as well as chrome valve covers, rebuilt linkages,
a BBK twin-bore cable throttle body, Shelby fuel pumps and custom
wiring harnesses. The battery box was relocated, and the brake and
clutch systems were repositioned to allow for installation.
Trophies garnered at numerous car shows are included in the sale,
along with assorted memorabilia, service and build records,
manufacturer's literature, an original purchase invoice, a Window
Sticker and a car cover. CARFAX shows Ford Motor Company
manufacturer safety recall issued on 12/14/2000: Park brake control
