UD 1S 22983 was completed June 12, 1973 and dispatched on the 6th
of August - distributed through British Leyland Motors, New York in
Dark Blue paint over French Blue leather upholstery, as verified by
Jaguar Heritage Trust. In addition to its striking livery, this
striking E-Type came ideally optioned and fully equipped with air
condition, British Leyland AM/FM radio, leather seating, manual
transmission, along with a color-matched factory hardtop.
Upon his acquisition in 1988 at 31,500 miles, the Roadster's
previous and most recent caretaker showed and displayed the vehicle
at a number of events early on, as noted by awarded plaques. It was
later driven on occasion, serviced as needed, and eventually
resided to longer bouts of garage storage. A binder of proceeding
invoices, records and receipts from 1988-Present accompany. With
just 38,000 miles currently on the odometer, UD1S22983 was
uncovered from its resting and brought to our facility here in
Houston, TX, where it was assessed before receiving an extensive
detail to its current presentation.
This particular Series III remains a highly original example
overall. Upon close inspection, you will find etched side glass,
original trim and brightwork, lamps and lenses, spot welds, Trico
wipers, original clips/clamps/retainers, engine bay decals, tags,
plaques, wires and ties. And complete with original owner's manual
in vinyl folio, keys, Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and
equipment.
The exterior's glossy paint appears quite largely original, with
very thin and consistent paint meter readings to support. While
beautifully mellowed, and most worthy of preservation. Small spots
of factory red oxide primer peeking through in discrete areas by no
way detract from the over presentation, but only enhance its honest
authenticity. Front and rear Amco bumper bars and chrome wire
wheels complement. New tires will be necessary before street use.
Importantly, a Dark Blue color-matched hardtop offers multiple top
variations and a highly desired factory option. A hardtop stand
supports the piece when not in use.
The cabin's upholstery remains wonderfully intact, and quite supple
for its age. Its interior comes well equipped with an original
British Leyland radio, factory air conditioning, manual
transmission, and striking colors. The seating's leather has
matured with age, but still very usable, having been redyed in
years past. While the surrounding plastics and vinyl have held up
nicely as well. Exceptionally persevered carpeting is protected by
supplemental Amco rubber mats. A period Motolita steering wheel,
and Amco shift knob are fitted. A vinyl convertible top boot neatly
covers the frame when the top is down.
UD1S22983 retains its original engine, number 7S12333LB. The
Roadster starts, runs and drives with consistent compression of
130-145 across all cylinders. Due to infrequent use, a number of
auxiliary consumable items are due for further inspection and
replacement as needed, including the aforementioned tires.
As expected, the luggage compartment is tidy with jack in vinyl
sleeve, lead hammer and brass spanner. The Jaguar retains its
original spare wheel, coated in protective cosmoline, while fitted
with its factory Dunlop SP Sport tire and tube - which still holds
air. The SIII's undercarriage remains very solid and intact, with
excellent floors displaying original spot welds, drain holes and
seams. It appears preventative undercoating was applied across the
bottom and into the wheel wells.
Offered for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas
showroom, this notably honest, highly equipped, complete, and
well-preserved Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 OTS presents an
excellent opportunity for continued preservation and further driven
enjoyment once serviced.
