This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro is a mean-looking machine that takes the
iconic coupe you love and upgrades it to a 500 hp brawler. So while
the price is already tempting on a classic like this, it's what's
beneath the skin that's irresistible.
The '68 Camaro has an iconic look known for its intimidation
factor, and this one plays into that feeling. After all, it was
upgraded with the best of the Super Sport elements, like the front
air dam, blackout SS grille, and D80 rear spoiler. Plus, you'll
discover it really earns the power bulge of the cowl hood. The
black racing stripes are a terrific pairing painted on top of the
orange body. The full paint package was an upgrade later in life,
and it retains quite a nice gloss and shine. All the correct
brightwork is in place, and the whole package doesn't seem to stray
too far from the vintage style we love. Even the addition of REV
alloy wheels follow the classic torque thrust look. But they are
now a larger 17-inch size that allow you to fit better performance
tires.
Where the exterior is orange with black accents, the color theme is
switched for the interior. A smooth dash, good door cards, and nice
carpeting make this look well-done. We especially like the added
flair of the black upholstery with the custom orange piping. Plus,
the front seats are a great upgrade not only for this SS stitching,
but also because the high-back units are fully adjustable and have
plenty of bolstering. The performance attitude continues with
upgrades like the Grant GT sports steering wheel, SunPro gauge
trio, and B&M shifter. There's an AM/FM/CD stereo with USB
input and upgraded speakers for better driving music, but really,
we bet your favorite soundtrack begins in the engine bay.
Under the hood is a mean-looking motor, and the callouts on the
valve covers clue you in that this is an impressive build. It's a
383 cubic-inch stroker motor done by the masters at Patriot
Performance. They start with a Dart block with four-bolt main, and
then they enhance and fortify it with an Eagle rotating assembly,
Eagle crankshaft, Clevite bearings, Howards hydraulic roller
camshaft, Patriot heads, and forged flat-top pistons. It inhales
deeply with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Patriot
performance intake. This exhales with power and authority as long
tube headers feed the dual exhaust. It's even supported by the
right pieces, like an aluminum high-volume water pump, MSD
Streetfire distributor, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric
fans. The full package is built to deliver over 500 horsepower!
That's why you also have performance upgrades, like four-wheel disc
brakes and grippy ZR-rated tires. Plus, the three-speed automatic
transmission and power steering make it a good all-around
driver.
This is the iconic Camaro that has an awesomely powerful heart. So
at a price like this, you know this deal won't stay idle for long.
