About the 911 C2S:
The 993 C2S shared a wide-body platform with the 993 Turbo and
Carrera 4S, which included widened fenders, unique side skirts, and
redesigned bumpers. The retractable rear spoiler featured a
split-grille design that was specific only to the C2S.
The air-cooled 3.6-liter M64/23 flat-six features VarioRam
induction and when new was rated at 282 horsepower, which is sent
to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
Carrera S shared the Turbo model's bodyshell but housed the
naturally aspirated engine in the rear. Both of the S models had
slightly lowered suspension as compared to standard Carrera models.
The all-wheel-drive 4S is heavier than the S due to the former's
all-wheel-drive system, resulting in a curb weight of 1,427 kg
(3,147 lb) for the C4S vs. 1,390 kg (3,064 lb) for the C2S. Due to
this, the S has a quicker acceleration time and a greater top speed
than the 4S.
The wide bodywork is widely acclaimed for its rear looks. It
creates more aerodynamic drag, leading to slightly lower top speeds
compared to the narrower siblings (about 5 km/h), but the wider
tires result in excellent road-holding.
This car was and is very significant as it was the final
incarnation of the air-cooled 911 first introduced in 1964. Most
enthusiasts and collectors consider the 993 to be the best of the
air-cooled 911 series. As Car & Driver noted in their take on the
car, "Porsche's version of the Goldilocks tale is the
993-generation 911, the one many Porschephiles agree that the
company got just right," with an "ideal blend of technology and
classic 911 air-cooled heritage."
