Vehicle Description
Here's a top-of-the-line, first-year 1968 AMC Javelin with a
stunning color combo and an enhanced version of the correct V8. So
as you look at all the details, you'll realize that all the
investments in this classic sports car make it desirable well
beyond its obtainable price.
AMC always did things a little differently, and for those who pay
attention, the rewards can be huge. For example, this is the first
year for the now-legendary Javelin coupe. Add in the SST premium
package and Kenosha's legendary low production numbers, and you've
got a cool classic example of rare American muscle (only around
26,000 were produced.) But the coupe's desirability goes beyond
just rarity. The original shade of Rally Green Metallic has been
treated to a professional respray that lets the deep tone radiate
in the sunlight. And this quality paint also loves to highlight the
sharpness of the sheetmetal. This has a great street machine look
with double redline tires, mag-style wheels, bright dual exhaust
tips, and dual white racing stripes painted on top. Plus, these
AMCs had a terrific sense of style with wide front and rear bumpers
integral to the design more than just about any other '60s
coupe.
You're going to love showing off this interior. It was upgraded to
a tasteful tan later in life, and so it remains quite clean and
fresh today. Not only is it a timeless color combo against the
exterior's deep green, but it also has great details, like the
textured seatbacks and Javelin script in the floor mats. There are
great vintage features, including the stock AMC AM/FM radio that's
there for display. And this is even a factory air conditioning car
(it's been converted to R134a but it will need servicing to blow
cold again.) It's also a proper driver's coupe with bucket seats up
front, a center console, and an upgraded wood-rimmed sports
steering wheel.
Under the hood is AMC's 290 cubic-inch V8. While this is the
correct-style motor for this first-year Javelin, you can also see
there have been some solid investment in upgrades. This includes an
Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, MSD
distributor, and Hedman headers feeding the dual exhaust. The V8
fires up nicely and runs strong to make for a terrific cruiser.
Plus, you have a three-speed automatic transmission, power
steering, power brakes, and front discs for great all-around
cruising.
The sale comes complete with restoration photos, title
documentation, and the owner's manual. It will be hard to find a
classic coupe that looks this good and is rare enough to draw
serious attention, even if you paid double the price. Call
