Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi. Finished
in Chamonix White over blue interior, this non-sunroof Euro E9
coupe was sold new in Italy where it remained until it was imported
to the US in the early 1990s. A friend of Motorcar Studio acquired
this BMW in 2006, then sold it to another mutual friend, the
current owner, in 2008, so this is a car we have known for many
years. This E9 saw a bare-metal repaint in the correct color in
2005 along with new front seat upholstery at the same time. Paint
and body remain in nice condition with no known rust issues (the
lack of a sunroof plus living in dry climates has certainly helped
this one hold up). The car is currently running genuine Alpina
wheels wearing nearly new Pirellis; four original coupe wheels
(plus a matching spare) in good condition are included with the
sale.
Interior is mostly original and presents nicely; wood, dash, door
panels, headliner and rear seat upholstery are all believed to be
original. Records indicate new front seat upholstery in 2005 and
new carpet in 2007. An attractive Nardi wood wheel and coco mats
have been fitted but the interior is otherwise unmodified. A
working Becker Europa stereo is installed in the console. All of
the gauges, switches, lights, indicators, power windows, door latch
and lock mechanisms, etc. are functioning as they should. The back
of the rear seat has been signed by most of the car's previous
owners both in Italy and the U.S.
Under the hood is the original, numbers-matching M30B30
fuel-injected inline six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.
During current ownership the car has seen a front-end rebuild with
new bushings, a full brake job including new lines, a rebuilt
distributor, new soft fuel lines to the injectors, a new starter,
plus routine maintenance, tune-ups, oil service, etc. Korman
springs are currently fitted (with the originals included in a box
in the trunk). This E9 feels great to drive - it's tight and very
"put together" without being overly stiff. Very smooth power
delivery from the injected six cylinder engine coupled with
responsive steering and braking provide a refined and comfortable -
yet engaging - driving experience.
The current enthusiast owner has added approximately 20,000
kilometers during his ownership (that works out to about 1,000
miles a year) - we've toured alongside this car from Asheville to
Amelia Island. Nearly two decades of service records plus written
notes on the known history of the car are included with the sale.
This is a clean and well-sorted E9 in the desirable Euro CSi
fuel-injected configuration, ready for touring without excuses. For
