1997 Cadillac Eldorado convertible conversions are rare, but hard
boot convertible conversions are VERY rare. Only a handful all of
the hard boot conversions we're done by coach builders limited and
they are far superior to the other convertible conversion which
requires you to manually put the canvas boot on the top once it is
in the lowered position. With the hard boot the top totally
disappears under the boot at a touch of the button, plus the top
has a glass rear window for a long life and clear visibility. This
triple black beauty, body, top, interior is in good shape. By the
late 1990s, Cadillac?s Eldorado had seen many different iterations
? rounded styling, square-edged and upright and everything
in-between. This example was made in Cadillac?s Hamtramck factory
in Detroit, Michigan and features General Motors? Northstar V-8
engine. As a Cadillac fan, you already know the factory didn't make
any droptops in 1997. Instead, the people at Coach Builders Limited
created this for well-heeled clientele that were willing to pay a
handsome premium over the luxurious Eldorado coupe price. The
convertible conversion was performed by Coachbuilders Limited (now
Droptop Customs) in High Springs, Florida. Drop Top Customs was
originally founded in 1976 as ?Coachbuilders Limited,? has over 41
years of experience. All of their conversion projects are completed
in-house, from the moment you drive in until the moment you drive
away. Their facilities include complete metalworking, upholstery,
painting and fiberglass equipment. This Cadillac features the
desired triple black combination with the extremely rare optional
hard boot conversion with the rear glass window. The car?s black
paint, is in good shape, with minor blemishes visible at close
range. The car?s bodywork is straight, the engine bay is very tidy,
the battery appears new and the car?s body-colored bumpers are in
good, original order but the fog lights are not functional and some
new emblems are included. The car rolls on radials, size 225/60R16
at every corner with over 90% tread life. Each one is mounted on a
factory chrome alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are in good,
original order and the Eldorado also included with a full size
spare. Under the hood with counterbalanced struts is a 4.6L
Northstar DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine (code L37) with sequential
multi-port fuel injection. The motor is linked a 4T80-E
electronically controlled, four-speed automatic transmission with a
3.71:1 final drive. Driver?s convenience features include automatic
climate control, power steering, power disc brakes with anti-lock,
cruise control, tilt steering column, power windows, power locks,
power mirrors, dual zone climate control and power antenna. Safety
features include dual front airbags, a leveling suspension,
Stabilitrak and Rainsense intermittent windshield wipers. Inside is
a black leather interior. The front buckets and rear bench are in
great shape and so is the matching carpet. A four-spoke,
leather-wrapped steering wheel faces the driver while the
instrument panel and inner door panels are in decent condition. The
center console and leather shift lever plus a factory Delco-Bose
AM/FM stereo with cassette deck completes the interior. In 1997,
the Integrated Chassis Control System was added. It involved
microprocessor integration of engine, traction control, Stabilitrak
electronic stability control, steering, and adaptive continuously
variable road sensing suspension (CVRSS), with the intent of
improving responsiveness to driver input, performance, and overall
safety. Competition to this Eldorado in 1997 included Acura?s RL,
Buick?s Riviera, Cadillac?s own Seville, Chrysler?s New Yorker and
LHS, Infiniti?s Q45, Lexus? SC400, Lincoln?s Mark VIII, Mercury?s
Cougar, Oldsmobile?s Aurora and Toyota?s Avalon. If you?re
