LRA Auto Museum and Sales is pleased to offer this recently
restored, numbers matching 1971 Plymouth Road Runner with only
21,661 miles! This example sports many period-correct touches,
giving it the look and feel of an authentic boulevard cruiser. It
wears the original coat of Tor-Red paint over black vinyl interior
and roof. All of the sheet metal is original and the brightwork
looks and shines like new. This Road Runner comes equipped with an
original 383 V8 with four barrel carb and desirable four speed
manual transmission. With under 500 miles, the motor runs great
with an upgraded soundtrack courtesy of period mild camshafts and
ceramic headers. While not a ram-air car, an air grabber hood was
added as well. The period touches continue with a Hurst pistol grip
shifter, Lakewood Traction Action traction bars, and original Road
Runner chrome exhaust tips. The 1968 Road Runner, based on the
Belvedere, was Plymouths way of getting performance to the average
Joe. Although it was based on the B-body cars, amenities like
carpets were removed to get price and weight down. The 1971 Road
Runner was the last hoo-rah from Plymouth at the end of the muscle
car era. The new, sleeker and more muscular fuselage style body
meant the car was much more stable on NASCAR superspeedways without
the Superbird aero kit. Magazines, like Cars , raved about the
styling, quality, and interior improvements provided by the 1971
update. The car had better road manners and livability, but sales
still plummeted thanks to higher gas prices and new crash-safety
requirements. Plymouth sold just 14,218 Road Runners, almost 30,000
less than the year prior. With less and less available, this is an
opportunity you dont want to miss! LRA Auto Museum and Sales aims
