GarageKeptMotors.) Only one truck manufacturer in America is this
tough on rust. -1984 Dodge magazine advertisement The '84 Dodge
pickup advertising went on: We are Dodge and we know how to back a
truck. Dodge protects you against outer body rust-through for five
long, cold winters. And five long, stormy summers. Five years or
100,000 miles. The ad featured the Ram Tough tag line long before
simply Ram became the entire brand name, and toughness became its
reason for being. The body-rust protection celebrated in the ad is
borne out by the remarkable, rust-free condition of this
76,000-mile (approximately 2,000 miles per-year on average)
survivor, especially considering its entire life was spent in
Michigan. The Prospector Edition D250 remains all original and was
saved from the harsh winters by only being a summer cruiser. The
condition of the two-tone brown-and-tan paint is in great shape for
its age. From the sculpted charging ram hood ornament, over the cab
and extended cargo body, to the Dodge Ram emblazoned brushed-steel
tailgate trim, the exterior remains untouched from the factory. The
cargo bed is also undamaged. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are
clear and free of cracks. Chrome trim and brushed-steel full-wheel
covers are in very good condition overall, as are painted steel
bumpers (the rear with more diamond plate steel protection). All
factory emblems-including the Prospector logo on the cargo box
designating the up-market edition-are present and in excellent
condition. The interior features light-tan, nobby-textured fabric
upholstery showing such cleanliness and lack of obvious wear, much
less abuse, that it looks almost new. Darker brown carpeting is
protected by a brown rubber full-width mat. The truck's dash
features simulated wood and round gauges. Notably, the
chromed-plastic highlights on the dashboard and
instrument-surround-which often show chips or delamination on
vehicles of this age-are in this case near-perfect. The dash
surfaces are similarly un-marred, and the door trim displays the
same condition, which could only result from consistent owner care,
even love. An AM-FM pushbutton SPS Audiovox factory radio is
mounted, and the truck features air-conditioning, which blows cold.
No headliner is in place, nor were most trucks delivered with one
from the factory in those times. The automatic-transmission shifter
is column-mounted. The sliding-window access to the cargo bed is
complete and operates properly. Under the hood, the 5.9L V8 engine
is complete with all components in place and all wiring and hoses
properly located. The engine bay is clean with recent service. An
oil sending switch and both valve cover gaskets were just replaced
along with an oil pan, rear main seal, oil change, and fresh
tune-up. The truck is healthy and lives up to the rough and tough
Ram name. The truck's factory build sheet is included, and the data
sticker on the body includes considerable build specifications.
From a time when pickup trucks were beginning to offer the comforts
of passenger cars, this Ram is a good example of a work truck that
offered so much more. A true survivor that worked its way, and was
properly cared for its entire life. Ram tough indeed. Power
