For Sale: 1992 Chevrolet 1500 in Costa Mesa, California

Vehicle Description

Crevier Classic Cars is offering a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado C/K1500.

CANNOT BE REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA.

First Built in 2001 for Street Trucks Magazine Top Truck Challenge where is placed first, this 1992 Chevrolet Silverado has since been rebuilt from the ground up by Redshift Engineering in Tustin California. It carries over a few items over from the original build, include a Vortech super charged and intercooled Corvette LT4 motor along with matching ZF6 manual transmission putting down over 400 horsepower to the rear wheels. The rest of the truck was completely rebuilt.

Under the hood, all previously chrome engine components were updated with a semi-gloss black powder coated finish. Replacing the old rubber radiator hoses are custom TIG welded aluminum lines with a black powder coated finish. First generation LT4 engines are notorious for having problems with the factory "Opti-Spark" ignition system. To remedy the situation a more modern LS 24x style coil on plug ignition system by Torqhead LTD was installed along with their signature fuel rail covers. New intercooler piping and intake tubes where also hand fabricated and TIG welded out of aluminum. The truck now breathes through a large K&N air filter.

To finish off the truck, a set of 20 inch Boyd Coddington wheels give it that 90's sport truck look.

With the suspension work underway, the truck bed was sent to Martin Patino in Santa Ana. The original Dupont red color was kept, but gas filler and tailgate shaved before being re-sprayed. The new tailgate now has no visible locking mechanisms and is operated by a hidden switch activating two electronic solenoids at either side of the bed. The truck is now fueled through an aircraft style gas cap located directly over the rear mounted fuel cell. In order to contrast the red paint and keep with the color scheme of the truck, Raptor coating was sprayed on the bed floor adding a level of usability and style to the truck.

A completely custom interior was designed and installed by Pete at Westminster Auto Upholstery in Anaheim Ca. In lieu of the factory bench seat, two leather bucket seats were installed along with custom center console. New door panels were constructed out of top-quality leather with suede trim. The dashboard and headliner were also done in leather and Suede. Although the original truck was equipped with lots of 90's era billet and chrome accents, to update the look of the truck, everything was anodized in a black finish by Embee Performance, Anaheim. Interior sound comes from a 1,000 watt Kicker stereo system and touch screen display compliments of Toby Lewis from Fueled Garage in Fullerton.

Originally equipped with air-ride, this truck now runs with a completely re-designed coil over rear suspension. The bed was removed to allow access to the rear frame rails. At this point the truck was scanned using a Faro 3D scanning arm to pick up the stock frame dimensions. With the new data logged, the original frame was cut off behind the cab. New rear frame rails were designed to incorporate a 17gallon RCI fuel cell, Optima Red Top battery, 5-link rear suspension, and coil overs. CNC laser cut and bent by Elite Laser in Santa Ana, the new frame components were TIG welded together before being grafted to the original frame.

Underneath the truck a new exhaust was fabricated out of stainless steel. New fuel lines were run and new OEM front suspension components were sourced. To get the correct ride height, a set of Beltech lowering spindles and coils drop the front roughly four inches. To finish off the truck, a set of 20 inch Boyd Coddington wheels give it that 90's sport truck look.

Having been under the knife for a second time, the factory wiring harness was scrapped to avoid any electrical issues down the road. Being a 90's vehicle, the Silverado does not have any support from the aftermarket as of writing this article. The only solution was to start the pain staking process of wiring the truck from scratch. Starting with a set of Dakota Digital gauges and control module, a one-off chassis wiring harness was designed. Factory style connectors were re-used and an Eaton Busman fuse panel was designated as a compact solution to the factory panel. The Fuse panel is now accessed via the glove compartment.
