For Sale: 1978 Chevrolet Blazer in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1978 Chevrolet Blazer

The second-generation Blazer arrived in 1973. The SUV's wheelbase had grown by 2.5 inches, while its overall length swelled by 7.0 inches. On V-8 models equipped with the automatic transmission, Chevrolet installed a full-time four-wheel-drive system. Styling was evolutionary, although the second-generation SUV's squared-off fender openings and integrated roll-down tailgate window were relatively radical additions. Although the new Blazer initially was offered with a completely removable roof, the model sprouted a fixed steel roof over the front passenger compartment beginning in 1976. A removable roof cap over the rear meant that those seated in the back were still able to experience the wind in their hair should the mood strike.

For consignment, a large K5 Blazer with a history of only 2 owners. Fully restored with some new sheet metal and paint in the early 90's, and at this time received a newer 350ci engine to replace the original 400ci V8. Now a larger trail trampler, fully operational and looking good while doing it.

Exterior
Beautiful black bathes the straight steel panels that have nicely minded gaps throughout. On the sides of this truck is a large silver panel insert, also pristine. Some stainless surrounding trim creates the border and delineates the silver from the beautiful black. On the back is a fiberglass shell which was repainted last year. Large chrome tubing forms the step up into the cab and mixes nicely with the black/silver paint. On top of the shell is a chromed spoiler, on either side is a large chromed side mirror and shiny bumpers are on front and rear of this nicely presenting truck. A set of 15-inch wheels with their dish-like shape, drilled holes and large central hub are all wrapped up with raised white lettered BFG Long Trail T/A radials which are like new. Some gold badging is attached to the front quarters and rear gate, and the front glass trim surround is slightly rusted.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we are greeted with a deep tan panel that has a satin aluminum panel insert for the door actuator and window crank. This panel has an etched Sheridan styled border, and some black painted metal below. There is a storage pouch attached as well. Inside black vinyl buckets flank a large center console for storage and cup holding. In front is the original dash, also utilizing the dark tan with more satin aluminum for the gauge cluster and knob and pull backgrounds. Black carpeting, nice and clean floods the floors and a cloth headliner is above the buckets. The fiberglass shell is the ceiling for the rear bench seat passengers, and also seen are dark tan molded side panels with a white inside to the shell. More black carpeting for the back, complete with the tailgate opening for extra storage way back.

Drivetrain
Underneath the big hood is now a 350ci V8 replacing the original 400ci V8. Some surface rust is noted in this engine bay, but all is mechanically sound. A 4-barrel carburetor feeds this 350ci V8 and on back is a TH350 3-speed automatic with a 3.07 axle configuration. There is a new water pump installed, and the A/C was recently serviced.

Undercarriage
A new fuel tank, and all black painted rust-free framing and floor pans can be seen underneath. Slight chip off of some of the former rustproofing covering has worn off over time. A bit of bondo repair has been previously performed as seen on the driver's side rocker. Leaf springs provide the suspension, and power disc brakes are installed upfront, and power drums for the rear.

Drive-Ability
Slipping into the recovered seats we fired this truck up and were off to the test track. Here we experienced good acceleration, smooth shifting, and good handling. Braking was excellent and all functions were working nicely, including the recently recharged A/C.

A 2-owner tuck throughout its lifetime, some new paint, a few maintenance issues resolved and you are ready to step into this K5 Blazer and hit some trails. Turn the key and go!
