A company in Fort Wayne Indiana whose main business was Tractors
and AG equipment thought they could build a better off-road vehicle
than the Jeep. So that's what they set out to do. In 1961 they
debuted the Scout 80. It would come in the form of a full hard-top
utility or a half-cab and pick up bed. And what they figured out is
that the American people were craving fun off-road adventure
vehicles. The Scout II when it debuted in 1971 was basically Scouts
4th generation and the end of the Scout Era. Production ended in
1980 and to this day the last generation Scouts are extremely
desirable and pricey.
This quite impressive Scout II is a drivers dream with strong
performance, reliable brakes and during our test drive all the
gauges were working properly along with lights, wipers, horn, and
heat. Vehicle has a great look with the Cosmic Blue paint that is
complimented by the 15in white wheels and 30in aggressive Wild
Country tires along front disc brakes. Vehicle came out of
Washington state with a short stint in Tennessee before arriving to
GR Auto Gallery. The 4spd manual shifts flawlessly and engages into
reverse with ease and the clutch engages with no chatter. Four
wheel drive system engages into both hi-lo range and gives this
Scout II many options for the trails, mud, dirt or snow.
Interior is very nice and original other than the steering wheel
and stereo (inop), but seats are comfortable, roll cage is
purposeful and visually enhancing. All four seats have seatbelts
and rear cargo area is clean. Vehicle is easy to maneuver with the
power steering and responsive brakes. According to the previous
owner the engine, transmission, transfer case and clutch were
rebuilt around 106k miles. Vehicle is believed to also represent
the actual mileage shown of 115k miles.
This is golden opportunity to buy an appreciating asset, have fun
with it and enjoy your weekends in style. The IHC market has been
red hot these past few years and is considered by many to increase
substantially over the next decade. Vehicle comes with original
owner's manual and service manual, clean title, and box of some
misc parts.
