Vehicle Description
Mostly unrestored 1958 Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette was
purchased by the prior owner in 1972. It was on a new car dealers
lot in Missouri. That owner brought the car back to his home in
Georgetown, Ms. where it was garaged until Harold purchased it in
2019. The prior owner was over 90 years old at the time of purchase
and has since passed. The Corvette was one of 9168 built in 1958.
The Serial Number is J58S108089. The mileage (thought to be
correct) shows 107000+/- miles. The car had sat up for sometime
prior to this purchase. Harold did some work to get it back running
well again and this included a new exhaust from the manifolds back;
rebuild of the carburetor; new brake shoes, wheel cylinders and
brake lines; new fuel tank and fuel lines; all fluids were changed;
and new seat covers, cushions and carpet installed (Al Knoch); and
about $2000 worth of new chrome on the front of the car.. The car
cranks, starts, drives, shifts and stops very well. It is a good
driver. Other than the items listed above the car is pretty much
original. The car started out as a blue car (Royal Turquoise?) and
was painted an unknown number of years ago. The white paint is
nice. The car does not have the original engine. We think this 283
is of 1959 vintage. It runs very well. Little is known about the
Powerglide two speed automatic transmission other than it is smooth
and shifts very well. The car is easy to drive. The car has both
hard top and the convertible top frame. The canvas off the
convertible is gone but the frame is serviceable. All of the lights
work. The tach needs a drive cable; the speedometer works. The
chrome on the car is acceptable considering it is over 60 years
old. The entire bottom of the car has 60+ years worth of road grime
but no rust as the photos show. These C1 first generation Corvettes
are in demand. Mostly unrestored examples like this are even more
rare.
