Vehicle Description
The El Camino has an interesting social status that gives it plenty
of personality. After all, it's hard not to love a vehicle that's
both a comfy sedan and a versatile pickup. This 1981 Chevrolet El
Camino delivers this iconic idea while giving you the right
features, like an A/C interior, a small block under the hood, and a
cool/classic style including pinstriping.
The Desert Sand paint has a true classic style to it that makes
this one instantly look vintage. But what really sets it apart is
the pinstriping. It's a complete package that's particularly
attractive for offering extra elements, like the fade on the door
panels and artful tailgate design. And this pinstriping also has
other purposes, including highlighting the quality of the
sheetmetal. It even coordinates nicely with the brown folding
tonneau cover. Because this has a practical truck bed, there are
polished bed rails and a durable mat to carry any of the big loads
on the weekends. We really like the design of these final
generation El Caminos because they incorporate some great classic
cruiser elements. For example, the roof line almost mimics the
classic pre-war business coupes, and the license plate looks like
it was frenched into the tailgate. Plus, this has nice upgrades
like the bright dual exhaust tips and iconic polished Cragar SS
wheels.
The interior has a clean, comfortable and well-preserved feeling.
But as you dig a little deeper, you'll realize that there have been
a bunch of the right investments. The seat may have a stock style,
but it feels freshly reupholstered with a comfy velour insert. The
steering wheel is the classic dual-spoke unit that has a clear view
to the long speedometer. It gives this a great cruiser feeling, and
that's heightened further by the addition of cruise control. The
stereo has been upgraded to an AM/FM/CD unit with a USB input, and
the factory air conditioning has newer components and now blowing
cold with modern R134a refrigerant.
Under the hood is an interesting small block. The 267 cubic-inch V8
was not in production for very long, and so having the
numbers-matching unit in this El Camino just adds to this classic's
story. It runs well, which helps keep this a classic you'll love
driving. That's why it also has great anytime features, like a
three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes,
and front discs.
Complete with owner's manual, this is a distinct, comfortable, and
all-around desirable classic...especially at this value price. So
