We didn't know it back then, but this 2002 Pontiac Firebird 35th
Anniversary Trans Am convertible was the last time we'd celebrate a
milestone with Pontiac. With less than 2400 ever made, this
collector's edition T-Top car is desirable well beyond its powerful
5.7L LS1 V8, uber-low mileage, WS6 package, and carefully preserved
total presentation. The Firebird Trans Am was really sent off in
style by Pontiac, and here's your chance to own one of the best
examples you'll ever find on the secondary market.
This has always been a true collector's car from day one. In fact,
there were only 839 T-Top cars with 6-speed manuals built for the
US and Canada markets. And that's precisely why this car has been
treated so carefully throughout the years, averaging only about 640
miles annually. The special 35th anniversary package started by
bringing back on of their boldest colors around for an exclusive
run that was appropriately re-named Pontiac Collector Yellow. It's
a vivid, attention-grabbing shade that looks terrific on this
carefully preserved example, showing only incredibly minor swirl
marks from past car washes. But don't get us wrong, this is still a
car that you can show, a veritable 9 out 10 if we must out a number
on it, and a professional cut-and-buff could easily bring it back
up to showroom new condition. To off-set all that yellow, these
anniversary cars had some very unique factory striping that was
added from hood to tail. These silver and black stripes are
well-coordinated with everything from the updated 'Screaming
Chicken' set-up on the hood, to the swooping pinstripe-like
presentation running down the profiles. It's a bold and thoughtful
total package that commemorates the end of an era perfectly, and
when combined with the aggressive styling of the WS6 appearance
package, it's one of the coolest 'modern classics' we've ever
seen.
If you like the way the black T-top roof and blacked-out alloys
looks against the yellow paint, then you'll love the full Ebony
leather interior inside. Low mileage means little seat time in
those sporty black leather buckets, and they even come with
commemorative stitching in the headrest. Top-of-the-line
anniversary cars like this Bright Bird only came one way, loaded,
with options like power seats, windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise
control, keyless entry/alarm, tilt wheel, steering wheel mounted
controls, and an original Pontiac Monsoon AM/FM/CD premium stereo
that manages all the speakers throughout the cabin. Easily
removeable T-Tops mean you can enjoy an open-air driving experience
in seconds, and they're also tinted limo black when you want
protection from the elements. And cold-blowing air conditioning
means you get you enjoy this all through the summer, too. Beyond
just luxury features, a modern classic also means modern safety,
too, and this Trans Am comes equipped with dual airbags, anti-lock
brakes, and traction control (yes, you can turn that last one off
when it's time to have some fun).
Under the hood is where all the action is, in the form of a
numbers-matching 5.7L LS1 fuel-injected V8. With the special Ram
Air hood element that comes on the WS6 package, the factory output
is impressive, turning out 325 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque. The
entire engine bay looks like a fresh time capsule, right down to
the factory decals, bright yellow inner fenders, and all the
original components still in place. The block fires up instantly
with a nice throaty grunt from the factory exhaust, and there's
great power up and down the throttle, regardless of what gear the
car's in. With so few miles on the odometer the car still drive
like new, with great response from the 6-speed manual transmission
that's ideal for both quick kick-downs for power as well as easy
overdrive cruising. The beefed-up sporty suspension is another WS6
high point, with bigger sway bars and higher spring rates than a
regular Trans Am, flicking the relatively lightweight body in and
out of the corners with ease. Add this to power four-wheel disc
brakes and power steering, and this is the collector car that begs
to be driven. Blacked-out Collector's Edition alloys set the stance
and add great contrast to the yellow finish, and they're wrapped in
275/40/17 Nexen performance radials with plenty of grip.
With only 12,237 miles on the clock, this extremely low production
T/A represents the perfect send-off to the legendary performance
Pontiac. These pedigreed cars don't come up for sale that often,
let alone in such great condition. Call today!!!
