Vehicle Description
This 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 has been nicely restored to show off
its cool factory color combo and numbers-matching motor. But since
this is a high-performance 400ci coupe, they also took the time to
add in extra power. The result is a great classic style with the V8
muscle you really expect from a Firebird.
Sure, we love '60s power machines in red and black, but here's a
more sophisticated way to standout. The factory-correct Warwick
Blue has a great glow in the sunshine that reminds you Pontiacs
were not only performance-bred, but also premium, too. This
up-scale feeling is continued on the fresh black vinyl roof. But
more than just a great color combo, you love that these first-gen
cars were an instant classic thanks to the bold styling. It starts
up front with the unique chrome bumper that frames the grille and
looks like the Firebird's outstretched wings. There are the right
sporty details, like the dual hood scoops, full-width spoiler, and
Rally II wheels with PMD center caps. It's all presented on a car
that gets the fundaments right with good gaps, newer seals, and
great-looking sheetmetal - including the signature creases above
the wheels.
Open the door to reveal a dark blue interior. The seats, carpets,
door panels, and even the steering wheel all contribute to this
feeling of a deep blue ocean. And the burled walnut appliques on
the center console adds more of that great premium feeling. This
was even a factory A/C car (it will need components and servicing
to restore the function.) More than just look good, this was built
to be a driver's car. You have nice factory features like the rare
tilt steering column, and that's joined by well-placed upgrades
like under dash auxiliary gauges and a retro-style AM/FM digital
tuner w/cassette.
At first glance, the engine bay wants to show off a tidy style to a
very factory presentation. So it's a great way to show off the
numbers-matching 400 cubic-inch V8. The block glows from within the
dark engine bay thanks to the bright and correct Pontiac turquoise.
Tidy wires, good hoses, and polished valve covers are all there to
be neat and refined. But if you dig a little deeper, you'll see the
investment in added power like a Holley Street Dominator intake
holding the Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor. And long tube headers
let the big V8 exhale with added power into the X-pipe dual
exhaust. There's also an upgraded cam for added performance and a
terrific rumble. The numbers-matching TH400 three-speed automatic
transmission was built to be a stout unit that loves this kind of
added power. And it feeds an upgraded 12-bolt Positraction rear
end. Plus, power steering, power brakes, front discs, and wide BF
Goodrich T/As make for an all-around nice driving coupe.
