Ford Mustang GT Ford completed the first redesign of the legendary
Mustang for the '67 model year with improved dimensions to allow
the installation of a big-block - the Thunderbird 390. The most
noticeable design changes were the larger/deeper grill mouth and
concave tail lights. Ford then provided minor changes for the
second model year in '68 that focused on safety such as the two
spoke energy absorbing steering wheel, shoulder belts, and side
markers. Car and Driver testing, an automatic-equipped GT-390
posted a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds and a quarter-mile time of
14.8 seconds. Ultimate performance numbers didn't matter, though,
when Steve McQueen drove a 1968 Mustang GT-390 through the streets
