Vehicle Description
1955 Ford Crown Victoria
The Crown Victoria name first appeared in the Ford line-up in the
1955 model year as a high-fashion version of the Fairlane. Existing
as a two-door coupe for 1955 and 1956, 24 years would pass before
the Crown Victoria rejoined the Ford line-up.
For consignment a 1955 Crown Victoria with all the right stuff. Two
tone black and white CHECK! Swoop Spear...CHECK! Chromed "Basket
Handle" roof...CHECK! Continental rear bumper...CHECK! Overall,
very nice condition...OH YEAH!
Exterior
From the side view this car appears to be moving forward even as it
stands completely still! With its wide trimmed stainless window
surrounds with a basket handle B pillar, to the gently curved rear
rounded over glass, and the swoop spear with black on top. White on
the sides and trunk and hood, and more black below it's as classic
as a black and white checkered floor. Straight steel rust free
panels cover the exterior, and the overall design makes heavy use
of the polished chrome trimmings throughout. Even the headlight
visors are nicely chromed along with the rockers, covering to the
rear bumper mounted spare tire, and wheel coverings. Round jet age
ushering in taillights have small fiend V toppers for backup
lighting, and of course edged in chrome. Wide whites on all 4
corners and dual chrome tipped exhaust peeking out from under the
back, and we are in cruiser nirvana.
Interior
More of the two toned black and white inside for the door panels
peppered with stainless and chrome trimmings and handles lead the
way for us to enter this original dash top and front instrument
panel. The top is black, and the front is white, and there is a
lineup of round gauges, and radio as well as sliders to steering
wheel right. Speaking of which...is original bakelite in white, and
has a chromed center half ring for the horn and center cap. Black
tuck and roll inserts are completely surrounded by smooth white
bolsters on all the seats which are a split front bench and a full
rear bench complete with fold down armrest. All this floats in a
black sea of clean carpeting. Above is a nice and tight headliner
in white and is completed with the chromed wide basket handle for
the B pillar inside as well as outside.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a restored 272ci V8. It has a nicely red painted
block, and Ford badged valve covers. On back is a 3-speed
transmission and overall it is a nicely appearing engine in an
original engine bay.
Undercarriage
A fairly heavy coating of rustproofing especially on the rear
portion of this car, but it seems to be solid with the heavy
coating not hiding any nefarious problems. Independent coil springs
are on front, and leaf springs for the back suspension, and drum
brakes are all around. All other surfaces (floorpans, toe kicks,
rockers) are coated in rustproofing but it is a lighter
coating.
Drive-Ability
A pleasant test cruise through town which turned heads, and
attracted all kinds of attention. You'd think the locals would
become accustomed to our flaunting of these old classics on main
street, but each time it's like the first classic they've seen in
forever! All was working very well with a smooth ride, good
braking, and nice handling. I noticed the turn signal does not shut
itself off, and the radio was in op.
An overall good condition high end trimmed Crown Victoria from the
blue oval and right out of 1955, the first year for this trim
package. Nice black and white paint scheme and interior, and the
round gauges and instruments are a nice feature seldom used for
radios and temp sliders on the inside.
