For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in Seekonk, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

This amazing 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396/375HP L-78 “Legend” is one of the rarest, most authentic and award winning 1968 Camaros known to exist. It is one of only 4,575 “L78” models built in 1968. This car is one of only 14 1968 Chevrolet Camaros to receive the American Camaro Association “Legend” Official Concours Certification and only one of 2 “L-78” models. Over a three year period it achieved level one “Junior”, level two “Senior” and level three “Preservation”.  This is the highest level in Camaro judging at the national level. It was won over 15 awards which are included. It was restored by well-known and respected Ken Lucas of Lucas Restorations. This was Ken’s personal car from 1992 to 2018. This car has been certified by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro HI-Performance. His report and certificate is included. This car has documented ownership history from day one including a letter from the original owner to Ken Lucas. This car retains the original VIN tag and Trim tag. This car has all of its original sheet metal with exception of GM quarters. This car sports its original color combination of British Green and Black. This car is powered by its original matching numbers 396/375HP L-78 V8 engine, original matching numbers Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and original matching numbers 12-bolt POSI rear end with 3.55 gears. The exterior of this car is in excellent condition throughout. It truly looks like it was restored recently. The color combination is stunning in every sense of the word. The car retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of the rear quarters. Ken replaced the rear quarters with new GM rear quarters that were still available in the early 1990’s. The body is very straight and it has great gap lines throughout. The special louvered super sport hood, doors and trunk lid close very nicely. The car was finished in its original color of British Green which is complemented with a white stripe. The paint work is high show quality and was detailed to a brilliant shine by MS CLASSIC CARS. The original paint cans are included. All of the tinted glass is date coded and in beautiful condition. A list of the dates for each piece of glass is included. The windows roll up and down so smoothly. The window trim was restored and still looks really nice. Everything on this car was restored or replaced such as the wipers, hood scoops, black front grille, headlights, front bumper, date coded side view mirror, door handles, lower molding, emblems, blacked-out rear tail lamp panel and gas cap. The car sits on the correct style steel 14x6 wheels that were painted the body color and dressed with chrome hub caps. The wheels are wrapped with new Firestone Super Sport Redline F70-14 tires that were added by MS CLASSIC CARS. 

The interior of this car is also in excellent condition throughout. It truly looks like it was restored recently. It was restored in its original color of black. It’s a very simple interior with no thrills like a radio or console. It reeks of originality with original and correct trim pieces. The dash pad and door panels are GM original but not original to this car. The headliner, dash, gauges, knobs, steering wheel, door hardware, seats, seat belts, Hurst shifter and carpeting is in are in great condition. It the correct style rubber floor mats. Everything in the interior is in working order such as interior lights, headlights, turn signals, horn, gauges, heating system, etc. The trunk compartment was fully restored and finished in the correct trunk splatter paint. The correct stickers were placed on the backside of the trunk lid. It’s equipped with a full spare and tools. 

The engine compartment is highly detailed with many correct parts throughout. This engine compartment looks exactly how it did back in 1968. The parts are not only correct but their date code correct such as the distributor, starter, horn replay, alternator, etc. Everything in the engine compartment was restored or replaced. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 396/375HP “L-78” V8. The engine, cylinder heads, intake manifold and water pump are all date code correct. This engine was rebuilt by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro HI-Performance. Some of the engine information includes: 396 cubic inch displacement with 4.094 inch bore and 3.760 inch stroke, 375 horse power at 5600 RPM and 415 ft./lbs. Torque at 3600 RPM, Holley 800 C.F.M. dual feed vacuum secondary 4-bbl carburetor, aluminum “high rise” intake manifold, mechanical lifter cam (5.19 inch lift 316 degree duration, rectangular large-port cast-iron heads with 2.190 inch intake and 1.840 inch exhaust valves, 11:1 compression ratio, forged TRW domed pistons, forged 1018 alloy steel tuftrided cross drilled internally balanced crankshaft, 4-bolt main, deep grove engine pulleys and chromed valve covers and air cleaner lid. The engine is cooled by a heavy duty radiator with seven blade fan. The engine breathes through date code correct exhaust manifolds and a correct dual exhaust system. This engine sounds super!

The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers Muncie (M21) 4-speed transmission. All the numbers on the transmission are date code correct. The power is transferred to the original matching numbers 12-bolt POSI rear end with 3.55 gears. As stated in Jerry MacNeish’s report, “Beautiful example of an original numbers 396-375 HP Camaro. This car has been restored to new original condition. All drive-train numbers have been certified and authenticated.” The engine, transmission and rear end are in great working order. 

The undercarriage is also highly detailed with many correct parts throughout. This undercarriage should be displayed with mirrors at a car show to highlight the correct attention to detail. It was finished in the correct shade of black. All of the parts were painted the correct colors. It has all the correct factory paint marks and tags. The fuel lines, fuel tank, steering components, heavy duty suspension and power drum brakes have all been restored or replaced. Everything is in great working order. This car drives and handles very nicely on the road.
