Vehicle Description
After a competition win at the 1967 Daytona 200 in Florida with
Buddy Elmore on the throttle, Triumph Motorcycles gained much
recognition with its first-ever Daytona victory. To commemorate the
win, they produced a special race edition for the public called the
Daytona Tiger T100R. It would feature the same air-cooled 490cc
vertical twin power plant fitted with twin Amal carburetors, 9.0:1
high compression pistons, race cam, and larger valves to produce
approximately 42 horsepower. The Daytona Tiger T100R would go on to
win again at the Daytona 200 in 1967 with rider Gary Nixon. It
proved the enhanced Tiger was a hardened competitor, and could
handle average racing speeds for hours at a time!
They were produced from 1967 through early 1974. They were enhanced
in 1969 with ball bearing and roller bearing equipment in the
bottom end to replace traditional bushings in the valve train to
remedy unnecessary wear and oil consumption over time. And by 1973,
it was further improved with E3134 racing cams for both inlet &
exhaust, strengthened cam followers, valve guides, and performance
connecting rods! It is an exciting ride for owners offering
exhilarating performance in the higher rpm range, let alone an
iconic collector piece from Triumph's 1960's racing career!
Offered here is a 1973 Triumph Daytona 500 T100R finished in
Turquoise & Silver with Black vinyl seat. It's presented as a
wonderfully kept original with only cosmetic restoration as-needed
over the years. It retains its original 490cc air-cooled twin
engine and 4-speed constant mesh transmission. Features on the
Daytona T100R include telescopic hydraulic front fork with swing
arm rear suspension with two coil-over shocks, 8" front/7" rear
drum brakes, chrome spoke wheels and Avon Speedmaster MkII tires
measuring 3.50S19 up front and 4.00-19 at the rear. Our example
includes gas tank knee pads, chrome fenders, turn signals, and twin
rearview mirrors.
This unit comes from the former Fort Lauderdale owner with just
2,182 miles showing on the odometer. It was garage kept and only
exercised at 2-mile increments along a private airport driveway on
a relatively regular basis. It just recently had a new battery
installed prior to its arrival at our museum. It continues to start
and run with ease! Throttle response is excellent, and shifting
through the gears is swift! These high caliber Triumph Daytona 500
T100R are becoming harder to locate. Having the opportunity to ride
one is worth the hunt!
