will stand above the crowd, this 4x4 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is a must
see! This truck started with a vision from Richie Smith, President
of the Radical Rodders in New York. He fabricated the truck body to
sit on a 4x4 Blazer chassis and clearance the fenders to fit the
39.5" Super Swamper tires. A custom roll pan and tilt front end
were added and the truck was finished in a matte black for that rat
rod look. It was later purchased by his friend and sent to Florida
to be taken to the next level. The idea for a show quality truck
with a bad ass off-road look was hatched, and the plan put into
motion. The truck was sent to Belan Classic Car Restorations, where
John Belan put a lot of hours into making the body what you see
today. Rolled edges, smooth body panels, tight gaps, and a show
quality fit and finish were accomplished over the course of nearly
18 months. The truck was then painted in Viper Red with an Antique
White roof to give it a classic yet sporty look. A blue pinstripe
breaks the colors nicely and carries into the door jambs. The frame
was painted black and the underside is highly detailed and ready to
show. A big block 454 V8 engine rumbles through full-length headers
and dual exhaust that exit behind the tires with chrome tips. A
Weiand intake topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor provide
the air and fuel for this beast. Billet hot rod flame valve covers
and a chrome air cleaner finish off the engine in style. An
aluminum radiator keeps this big block cool and an HEI distributor
provides a sure spark. The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual
transmission that makes this truck a lot of fun to drive! It is a
four-wheel drive and a manual transfer case to lock in those big
front tires. Once the exterior work was completed, a new wood bed
was installed using Poplar that was hand sanded, stained and
received several coats of poly to protect the finish. New bed
strips were installed between the wood and a custom box was
fabricated around the fuel filler. The truck was then shipped to us
at Survivor Classic Car Services for a complete custom interior.
Our own Greg Ledford created and installed a custom headliner, rear
panels, door panels, dash, shifter boots, steering column cover,
under dash panels and transmission tunnel cover with the Chevy
Bowtie. New carpet was installed along with custom floor mats with
a red piping, to bring a bit of the outside color into the cab.
Swivel buckets seats were upholstered in matching beige vinyl and
installed to finish it off. As shown in the pictures, with the push
of a handle you can swivel the seats to get in and out, or just for
a neat talking point at car shows. This vehicle is eligible for an
Extended Service Contract through Classic Vehicle Protection.
