If you’re in the market for a practical, family-friendly weekend vehicle, then read no further. This ISN’T the car for you. The Morgan 3-Wheeler, popularly called the M3W, is the latest incarnation of the three-wheeled wonder that Morgan has been making since 1911.
Some things have changed since it was introduced over 100 years ago, like the huge 2.0L S&S V-twin engine with fuel injection and electronic ignition. Other things remain the same, like it's hand-made character, and skinny motorcycle tires up front, riding on spoked rims. And the lack of doors, A/C, heater or radio. But who cares? This car is about the pure driving experience. The noise. The wind. The smile on everyone’s face who encounters it.
Technically, it’s a motorcycle since it rides on 3 wheels. But, since it has car controls, almost every state considers it an autocycle. That means it’s registered as a motorcycle but the owner doesn’t need a motorcycle endorsement to drive one. Best of all worlds, we say! It starts with the push of button, and power flows effortlessly from the insanely torquey V-twin through a Mazda 5-speed manual transmission and on to a final belt drive which spins the rear wheel. If you’re so inclined, it’ll hit 60 in about 6 seconds, but the Morgan is more about briskly driving your favorite roads. You can drive it fast, but be prepared to say goodbye to your hat and maybe your hair, too! Stopping is provided through front disc brakes and a rear drum.
This example is a 2013 in Sports Blue with black quilted leather interior! The history on this M3W is straightforward. The original owner was a former Morgan dealer who only put about 250 miles on the vehicle in his 5 years of ownership. The 2nd (current) owner purchased the car and sent it straight to another Morgan dealer who installed all the requisite reliability upgrades:
