For consignment just like the flamingoes that adorn your front
yard, a piece of pink Americana and ultimate symbol of success, the
1975 Caddy Coupe DeVille. A bagged suspension for that low and slow
troll through the section of town that could yield some interesting
results, a 500ci power plant, cushy leather interior with lots of
conveniences, and some futuristic wheels and the rear fender skirts
have this cruiser looking like it is barely floating off the
ground.
Exterior
Copious amounts of square footage of steel adorn the framing of
this long Caddy. Some areas of repairs and slight bubbling can be
seen under the flaked pink paint, particularly around areas of
attached trimmings, and window surrounds. Chrome remains shiny, and
abounds, peppering several surfaces at their transitions to other
panels. Mid 1970's square and rectangle design shows on the V
fronted grille which has smoothed over dual rectangular headlights
and side marker lighting which bends around the corner of the front
quarters. Below is a large, nice condition bumper which has the egg
crate grille just above it in the center. A long steel hood and
stainless trimmed wheel well surrounds, rocker covers, and a
central belt line trim spear highlight the pink. Above, the
roofline has a sunroof, a large stainless trimmed front glass and
an opera window which is tinted on the wide B pillars. Fender
skirts have been added to the rear quarters, which streak rearward
and form the iconic vertical spear lighting on back. These flank a
2 bedroom square footage trunk. 15-inch retro style 4 pointed star
with a central bullet shiny wheel covers adorn thin white radials
which are like new.
Interior
A swing of the massive doors and there is a world of plenty offered
up just on the door panels. Plenty of wood applique trim neatly
mixing with brown molded vinyl, some shiny trimming as delineation,
and the panel for the power windows, locks and mirror joystick.
Floating in a deep gold sea of carpeting showing some wear at the
thresholds, and slight staining in back, are cushy ultra wide
antique brown leather bucket seats that have a nice feel of aging
with some leather folds showing. There is a fold down central
armrest available or to offer up a 3rd seat in front. In the back,
buried under the big roof is a long couch like rear bench also in
padded leather and nicely worn. The original dash is fronting all
the leather menagerie and shows the GM square and rectangle design
utilizing tan molded vinyl, wood applique and some chrome
highlighting. Within its confines are cruise control, climate
control dimmable lights, delay wipers, power sunroof, rear defog,
and power antenna. An aftermarket radio from the Sony Corporation
is now mounted within this dash center and has AM/FM/CD
capabilities.
Drivetrain
Under the large hood are 500 cubes of V8 power awaiting your foot
to bring them to life. All in original unrestored condition, some
surface rust and dulling it is topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and
has a TH400 numbers matching 3-speed transmission on back. 2.93 is
the rear axle ratio just FYI...
Undercarriage
Surface rust, and plenty of faded black rustproofed surfaces are
seen on all the underside metal. It's all solid and structurally
sound with independent air bagged front and 4 link with airbag rear
suspension for the ride height. Power disc brakes are on front, and
power drums on back.
Drive-Ability
This pink lady fired right up and on the test drive performed
beautifully. Good acceleration, good braking and the airbag
suspension was a fun addition giving this car the ability to go
low. The sunroof opens with power but needs some manual assistance
to be closed properly. Also noticed the power antenna was in
op.
Only a select few can pull it off (see Elvis) driving around in a
pink Caddy but it offers up access to all at a fair price for this
princely car. Loaded with conveniences and steel slabs aplenty,
bathed in flaked pink paint, she's long and strong, and low and
slow if you want. Let's take a walk on the wild side. Doo do doo,
do doo do do doo...que the sax sugarplum fairy.
