For Sale: 1937 Bugatti Type 57-S in Dover, Delaware

Vehicle Description

1937 Bugatti replica SWOOP COUPE Streamliner

This body and rolling chassis is a cross-breed combination of two fiberglass body kits built by Delahaye USA. The body, hood and grille shell are our 1937 Bugatti Type 57s Pacific fastback. The four pontoon fenders are from our Generation Two Boattail Speedster kit. Before this experiment, we have never tried this and the mounts attaching the fenders have to be developed and are not included at this price. The fenders shown are simply blocked in place for these photos and yet have to be adapted and mounted to the car.

Styling wise, there are three optional front ends for you to choose from. The first, presently included with the car shown here, has a “droop snoot” one piece hood and Type 57s Bugatti fiberglass grille shell. This would require external bolt on headlights. See direct front view of man holding a Lucas P-1000 headlight next to Bugatti grille of a grey primered roadster and photo of red and black car with big Lucas headlights mounted on car.

A second  nose and hidden headlight configuration is a copy of a Figoni & Falaschi Talbot Lago “Teardrop” coupe. See photos of silver car with straight tube bumper or front 3/4 of red Talbot Lago.

The third choice is a copy of a 165 Delahaye nose with hidden headlights. See clay mockup of grille shell with Delahaye USA emblem on nose or unfinished aluminum bodied roadster with a brass grille shell.

Neither the Talbot Lago or Delahaye nose or grille have been made and are not included in the stated “as it is now” price. If you prefer one of those, we could build it for you or you could do it yourself or in a shop of your choosing. We are contemplating these alternate nose treatments as we continue to develop the Swoop Coupe design.

Door, hood and decklid hinges do not exist at this time and are not included. The fiberglass inner and outer doorskins and interior side window and inner windshield bezels are included along with a round trunklid. Buyer has the option of fabricating suicide OR gull wing door hinges like Mercedes 300 SL coupe

(see drawing).

The two red early renderings attached show our pontoon fenders on our Bugatti Fastback and Drophead.

The 135 inch wheelbase chassis features custom Art Morrison frame rails and a Kugel Komponents independant front suspension setup with coil springs, disc brakes and power steering rack positioned for left hand drive. The trailing arm 9 inch Ford rear is mounted with coil over shocks. It is sitting on four junkyard wheels and tires. There is room for any engine of your choice.

To change a rear tire, the fender must be unbolted and lifted straight up off the car. The front wheel and tire can be changed by jacking the nose of the car up, unbolting the wheel and slipping it out the bottom opening of the pontoon without removing the fender.  An alternative, at additional cost, would be to cut an opening in the side of each pontoon fender and cover it with a bolt-on fender skirt. See photo of our black boattail speedster at Pebble Beach with golf course and ocean in the background. These are chrome plated metal skirts, but they could be painted body color. Note side spears and grille mesh opening in hood side panels that could be incorporated into Swoop Coupe.

We are retiring and the fiberglass molds for our four body styles of Bugattis, molds for our boattail speedsters and pontoon fenders are for sale at a very reasonable price.

As of Dec. 27, 2020 we are currently involved building several other projects and not concentrating on Swoop Coupe. However, we plan to mount the fenders, install a steering column

and more, and as we do that the price for that labor will be added to the price quoted below.

Price for Swoop Coupe as shown here as of Dec. 27, 2002
