We're excited to present this unique sports car for your
consideration. It offers the classic Esprit shape first seen in the
mid-70's with a few edges rounded out a little bit, and a few more
vents added throughout the body. Over the years, the Esprit
remained a mid-engined sports car that had exotic styling, which
quickly grabs your attention. Still following Colin Chapman's
mantra of keeping things simple was followed pretty well, although
the Esprit was more of a fancy car for Lotus, not the usual driver
focused, small sports car. Bodywork finished in Bright Red paint
means that this car will garner attention wherever it goes, and not
only because of the bright color, but because many people don't
know what it is. In red it looks as though it might be a car from
Maranello, or Sant Agata. Exotic, flowing lines make it easy on the
eyes Giorgetto Giugaro (of Italy) designed the Esprit. He designed
a wide variety of vehicles over the years, including Italian sports
cars so the exotic looks come as no surprise. While the design was
penned by an Italian man, the rest of the car was dreamed up by
some chaps in England as they sipped tea or maybe a warm beer. This
particular Lotus shows nicely on the exterior, and looks as though
it was repainted in a few areas like the roof and front bumper. The
paint is even and glossy, and body panel fitment is good. As you
might expect, the interior has a driver-centric layout, with the
dashboard and gauge binnacle angled toward the driver. Sorry
passenger, you're just along for the ride! Just a few creature
comforts are offered in the car, in the form of leather wrapped
bucket seats which hold passengers tight, and factory A/C.
Otherwise if you're in the car you're enjoying the view through the
sharply raked windshield. A previous owner of this particular
Esprit felt that an upgrade to the audio system was in order, so a
number of speakers have been neatly added as well as a Kenwood head
unit. Mounted mid way in the rear is a 2.2L Inline-4 with a
Turbocharger strapped to it. The combination of the turbocharged
engine and 5 speed manual transmission propel this car to the 60mph
mark in about 4.7 seconds, which is easily early 90's exotic car
territory. 15 front and 16 rear OZ/Lotus wheels are polished and
wrapped in BF Goodrich tires. Esprits like this one are rare, but
provide such a great driving experience. In conjunction with an
aggressive push on the go pedal, the engine makes a great sound and
propels this 'wedge' down the road quickly. Be a little different
than all the other sports car owners and consider this cool Lotus
for your collection. Be sure to check out all the photos and video
