Vehicle Description
Someone forgot to remind this 1992 Chevrolet Silverado that it's
just an old pickup truck. Somewhere along the way, it received a
heart transplant that includes a fuel-injected 5.7L V8 crate motor,
an overdrive automatic transmission, and an athletic suspension
that makes it more muscle car than utilitarian hauler. Couple that
strong drivetrain with its bright teal livery and comfortable A/C
interior, and you've got one of the cooler 'modern classic' trucks
we've featured in quite some time.
Finished in slick Teal Green paint, this truck might ordinarily
keep a low profile. However, that all changed with the addition of
a blacked-out grille, tonneau cover, a set of slick Ion wheels, and
some choice '350 SS' badges throughout, all of which transform this
formerly non-descript truck into something special. Workmanship is
quite good, with a fantastic shine to the finish and great
attention to detail that includes fresh-looking headlights and
taillights, a foldable tonneau cover, and a deeper chin spoiler,
all of which add to the truck's performance look. The grille was
replaced with a blacked-out unit to match the body's aggressive
set-up, the front bumper is bright and shiny, and while the back
certainly matches, it's also a heavy-duty piece that includes a
trailer hitch just in case you want to use your truck as a truck.
The bed is protected with a heavy-duty spray-in bedliner, so it
doesn't mind doing a little work and the tonneau makes it
weatherproof. With just a bit of a raked stance, this slick pickup
will make you forget about your chores and instead encourages you
to head out and have some fun.
The restored interior is very much standard Chevy Silverado pickup,
but it's not like that's a bad thing, because according to the
original window sticker, this one was ordered with lots of factory
goodies. With handsome two-tone gray vinyl upholstery on a pair of
high-back reclining factory buckets, it is comfortable and
attractive for long hauls and given its condition, it has always
been well-maintained. Original carpets and handsome door panels
reinforce that fact and it's loaded with options: Cold factory A/C,
power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, and a modern
Pioneer AM/FM/CD/AUX stereo installed inside the custom middle
console that splits the front seats. A full set of original dials
are just ahead of the aftermarket leather-wrapped billet steering
wheel, and when you turn the key and see the interior LEDs light
up, it's pretty darned cool inside this comfy cab. Tinted windows
give it a sinister look, and it's probably safe to call the
enclosed bed a giant trunk.
The original engine was yanked in favor of a freshly installed 350
cubic inch V8 crate motor that was installed approximately 1500
miles ago. The engine bay looks super-clean, and if it wasn't for
the K&N cold air intake system it would almost pass for a
factory set-up. Fuel-injection and an HEI ignition system give it
instantaneous throttle response, and there's plenty of power up and
down the speedometer. The engine bay, even with the big K&N
air-cone filter, looks fairly stock, which is always the hallmark
of careful workmanship: preserving the OEM look and feel without
going crazy with the shiny stuff. There are signs of maintenance
and new parts throughout, including lots of recent brake work and a
full tune-up, and when you think about the low miles on the chassis
and the introduction of new motor, then you can easily see that
this truck will be around for decades to come. The 4-speed
automatic transmission replaces the original 5-speed manual and is
a great complement to the torquey engine, keeping it in the sweet
spot with the help of the 10-bolt rear end out back, so it's always
ready to go. The suspension has Monroe shocks all around and looks
great so low to the ground and the exhaust system is a
great-sounding stock set-up that still includes a catalytic
convertor. Sinister gun-metal and black Ion wheels add a
performance look and carry fat 275/60/15 Cooper Cobra radials that
fill the truck's big wheel arches perfectly.
A very neat truck with lots of power on tap and the suspension to
use it. Yeah, it'll still haul, but it would rather be chasing
Mustangs. Call today!
