Vehicle Description
1979 Porsche 911 Turbo For Sale - Purchased by Three-Time Le Mans
Winner Al Holbert LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1979
Porsche 930 Turbo The forefather to Porsche's current offering of
turbocharged cars, the Type 930 was the first road-going Porsche to
utilize forced induction. It quickly became an icon of performance
and the gold standard of sports cars. Not only defined by its
performance, the 911 Turbo's unique "whale tail" spoiler and wide
rear hips gave it an imposing stance, hinting at its wicked
performance potential. Performance was exceptional, with a 0-60 mph
sprint capable in just 4.9 seconds, leading to a top speed of just
over 155 mph, figures that many production cars today still
struggle to achieve. Al Holbert is a name that is synonymous with
winning Porsche race cars of the 1980's and became one of the
United States racing leaders, both on and off the track. The
Warrington, Pennsylvania, racer was a stunningly fast driver, a
superb engineer, a successful team owner and a terrific businessman
with Porsche North America and the Holbert car dealerships. He was
the all-time IMSA Camel GT career victory leader with 49 wins, and
drove to IMSA titles in 1976, 1977, 1983, 1985 and 1986. Holbert
also won 10 SCCA Can-Am races, one SCCA Trans-Am event and the 24
Hours of LeMans three times (1983, 1986 and 1987). He spearheaded
the Porsche IndyCar program, worked with Porsche racing customers
and drove the Lowenbrau Porsche 962 to the 1985 and 1986 Camel GT
championships. This 930 Turbo was originally titled to Bob
Holbert's Porsche dealership and was one of only eight hundred six
examples produced in 1979, and it was well-optioned when delivered.
The Porsche was finished in paint-to-sample Chiffon White over a
full brown leather interior, and was fitted with a limited slip
differential, an electric sunroof, a passenger-side exterior
mirror, air conditioning, and power windows. Porsche 930 Turbo's
have always been popular among enthusiasts and are fantastic cars
to drive. This example being owned by one of the most famous
Porsche drivers of the era, gives it great provenance and
collectability. Included in the sale are manuals, service records,
and a copy of the Porsche COA. Additional Details: 1979 PORSCHE 911
