Mercedes Benz was well-established as one of the world’s premier luxury automotive marques long before the introduction of the new 123 series which debuted for the 1976 model year in November 1975. When production ceased in January 1986, over 2.3 million automobiles in a variety of body styles were sold worldwide and continued the luxury car legacy of the company.
As with most Mercedes Benz vehicles, the new series was over-engineered and set the standard for comfort levels for the driver and passengers in its class. The four-door sedan was built on a 110-inch wheelbase chassis that was designed for ride quality while still offering good handling characteristics in virtually any situations.
The car was popular at introduction and remains one of the favored body styles from the marque four decades later. These cars have become known for their longevity and today one sees many examples still in service. These cars were updated throughout the production cycle, and this car is an example of the third and final series of the model entering production in September 1982 for the 1983 model year.
This 1983 Mercedes Benz 300D has been enjoyed by two owners over its’ lifetime. Equipped with the venerable 5-cylinder three-liter turbocharged diesel engine and automatic transmission the car runs and drives well. The light ivory paint presents very nicely and the Palomino MB Tex interior is in exceptional condition. Standard equipment on the car includes the options one would expect for a luxury-class car of the period, including four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes. The car was originally sold in California and was equipped with California emissions package which has been removed with the exhaust optimized for performance. The power sliding sunroof was an extra-cost option.
The odometer reflects just over 255,000 miles, most of which were put on with the original owner traveling between California and Missouri. While we believe that mileage to be accurate, in accordance with Missouri statutes the vehicle will be sold mileage-exempt due to age. The car comes with meticulous documentation and service records including the factory manuals and original window sticker. The present owner also has service records and receipts during his ownership. At some point during the original ownership the vehicle was involved in a minor accident and has had body work done on the driver’s rear quarter panel. The car is essentially rest-free and been garage-stored most of its’ life.

For this reason, we do not encourage buyers to attempt driving their purchase home as we cannot guarantee functional reliability of these vehicles. We strongly encourage prospective buyers to be sure they are comfortable with these issues before purchasing a classic car.
