For Sale: 1932 Packard Eight in Saint Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

For a great many car enthusiasts, the early 1930s represent the pinnacle of Classic Era grandeur. Packard enjoyed its rightful place near the top of the American class, offering style and quality in abundance. The Ninth series of 1932 introduced a number of refinements to the chassis, engine, and styling across the line. The legendary L-head eight got a bump in output to 110 horsepower, and adjustable ride control was now standard fitment. The frame was redesigned with improved bracing and an all-new double-drop design, which gave a lower overall height that subtly enhanced the already elegant styling. A variety of open and closed body styles were offered, many produced in Packard's in-house body shop, and all with the sophisticated style and unmistakable elegance that is synonymous with the legendary Detroit automaker. Featuring the elegant Club Sedan body from the factory catalog, this 1932 Packard Eight is a charming example of the 9th series offered with a well-maintained older restoration. Finished in a handsome two-tone livery of tan with deep burgundy fenders and accents, it is a handsome Packard that is ideal for use on tours and casual driving events. At a list price of $2,775, the Club Sedan sat in the middle of the Standard Eight range - but was hardly an "entry-level" motorcar, costing the equivalent of more thanfive1932 Ford coupes. This example is very nicely equipped with numerous period-correct accessories, including a Goddess of Speed mascot, chrome trumpet horns, fog lamps, wire wheels with polished spokes, dual side-mount spares with paint-matched covers, and a color-keyed trunk. The restoration has mellowed nicely with time and use, and some recent freshening ensures it remains quite attractive. The paint is in good condition, with a pleasing luster to the finish, and showing a few minor touchups and imperfections appropriate for the age. Brightwork is also in good order, with a lightly careworn character in keeping with this fine Packard's overall appeal. The five-passenger cabin features beautiful oyster-colored broadcloth fabric upholstery accented with brown piping and tan carpets. The front seats and door panels are taut, clean, and show minimal wear, though some minor staining is noted on the rear seat and the headlining. Instruments and controls are all correct fittings, presenting in good overall condition. The nickel fittings display a pleasing patina, and the woodgrain finish instrument panel and door caps are in fine order. Without a central division, the Club Sedan is comfortable and user friendly to all occupants and is an enjoyable family-friendly classic for casual touring. Packard's superb L-head inline-eight presents in good condition, finished in proper Packard green with a silver crankcase, and displaying a moderate patina from use. In this Standard Eight, it displaces 319 cubic inches and is rated for 110 horsepower. Packards of this era are renowned for their superbly engineered chassis with powerful brakes and precise, well-balanced steering. Thanks to the engine's abundant torque and synchromesh three-speed gearbox, this Standard Eight is remarkably capable and comfortable to drive. This charming Packard Eight is designated a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America and is therefore eligible for their popular CARavan tours and other club events. It is an honest, attractive, and well-kept example that's perfect for driving enjoyment with the whole family.
