Vehicle Description
2001 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
You don't have to look very hard to find the muscle/pony car DNA in
the Camaro. It's there in spades: a rumbling overhead-valve V8 and
a stick-shift tranny, packed in a low slung, distinctly American 2
plus 2. Just like the Z28's and SS's of 30 years ago. No
gizmo-actuated variable-valve timing, no overhead cams, no
independent rear suspension, no BS. The honest-to-quarter-mile
muscle car goods, and one of the last examples on the market that
can make the claim of being a true descendant of what it's been
from, well, its beginning back in '67.
A 2001 version of the Camaro graces our halls of Classic Auto Mall.
This one announces it has a mere 110,529 miles, a 3.8 Liter V6
engine, in beautiful red, and it's a convertible. Just these facts
should be enough bait you to come in and buy it right off the
floor, if you need more...read on!
Exterior
Bright Rally Red covers this car, and it is topped with a black
convertible that operates smoothly and efficiently. Paint is
showing some orange peeling (a full repaint was done at some time
in the past), and heat damage, particularly around the canvas top
trimmings. From its smooth hooded front, wildly raked back
windscreen, to its integrated spoiler in the rear, the great
curvaceous bodacious lines of this car appear as it is constantly
moving forward, only it is actually standing still! The polished 5
saw blade spoke 16" wheels give it away though because they would
be spinning if this was really moving...I think?!
Interior
Flip the top down with the push of a button, and you will have the
reveal of two tone light bolster and dark tan insert in tuck and
roll broadcloth high back buckets, and tan carpet you can wriggle
your bare toes in. The cloth buckets have just the right height to
grab you and this is important because when you put your boot into
it, you'll be creating a monster, unleashing all the power of the
V6. 2 plus 2 two-toned broadcloth to match the buckets in the rear
also, although a bit cramped, you can still pile that other couple
in for the double date. In the very center of this tumultuous sea
of interior we note a console automatic shifter. Lots-o-convenience
options abound like power mirrors, power locks, power steering,
power brakes, AM/FM/CD Bluetooth phone and iPod capabilities,
premium speakers, A/C, power top, if you are feeling feisty.
Deliciously 50 shades of tan all around interior-wise.
Drivetrain
Seated within the engine bay, and under the low slung hood is an
original 3.8 liter V6 that pumps out 200 horses. This is attached
to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. It sports EFI and is
original to the car.
Undercarriage
Quite like the day it left the dealership save for some surface
rust that has gathered on the straight steel parts of the
suspension, but quite unremarkable. Nary even a water spot, just
some overspray on the floorpans says volumes as to how and when
this car was driven or other not driven. Independent front
suspension with coil springs is noted and on back a torque arm and
coil springs. Power disc brakes are noted on all 4 corners
underneath as well.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and drove like a V6 champ. Smooth power,
good handling and all the interior convenience functions were
working just great. Bias free panic stopping and driving with top
down was quite enjoyable.
How about a throwback to the original Camaro with plenty of power,
classic good looks, low mileage, and plenty of conveniences PLUS
it's a convertible. Get into Classic Auto Mall's halls quickly as
this one will fly off the shelves, I just have a feeling!
