Vehicle Description
You're looking at an opportunity for rare American muscle offered
for a value price. This 1984 Ford LTD LX got the Mustang's V8 to
create a Ford sedan that was a true BMW beater. And this example
retains a correct sporty/luxury image, right down to the loaded A/C
interior. And while this sedan is desirable, you may have never
heard of it before, because less than 3,300 were produced over its
full two-year run.
This is a two-owner classic that has spent its life in Florida, and
so you have quite a solid looking car with clean lines and doors
that close with confidence. So it's a prime example where we now
really get to appreciate the design of the Ford LTD. The confident
front end, symmetrical glasshouse, and hint of sporty rear overhang
on the trunk are all the kind of things people would love if this
were offered by BMW in the 1980s. More than just have the hints of
a European sports sedan, a select few also had the performance. The
LX package created a Mustang is sheep's clothing. Although the
sleeper style isn't quite in full effect here. A later application
of black paint and deleted badging joins the factory blackout
grille and black trim to create a sleeker and meaner look. And the
upgraded 17-inch allows have a nice speedy style.
These were a premium Ford, and the interior really shows that off
nicely. The front bucket seats have the high-back bolstering you'd
expect to see on a sports car like the Mustang, and rear bench has
the two-tone comfy velour to match. This has a ton of great factory
features, like a power driver's seat, power windows, cruise
control, AM/FM stereo, an armrest center console, and factory air
conditioning now blowing cold with modern R134a refrigerant. The
dual-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column, and so it
gives you a clear view to the smooth dash and the factory speedo
and tach. Plus, there's a well-integrated set of auxiliary gauges
in the center to remind you there's something special under the
hood.
The heart of the LX package is the factory upgrade to the 5.0-liter
High Output V8. This is a legend in American performance for
delivering plenty of power in a stout package. It's one of the last
years for the four-barrel carb, which makes it great candidate for
modification. But on a classic as period-correct a this, we're
quite happy to see this looking exceptionally stock with just the
right maintenance along the way. This LTD shared the Mustang's Fox
platform, and so the LX also got the GT's suspension upgrades,
including sway bars front & rear. But more than just a pure
performer, this is also a proper all-around driver with power
steering, power brakes, front discs, and a four-speed automatic
transmission with highway-friendly overdrive.
This is a rare fast Ford made even more special by a careful
two-owner lifetime. So if you love them distinct, unique, and
plenty of V8 power, call today!
