OWNERS GUIDE, ACCESSORIES BOOKLET, SPAREEXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF ONE OF
GMS BEST 1960S DESIGNS Initially conceived as the La Salle II the
Riviera was Buicks undisputed image and engineering leader from
1963 through 1993 and again from 1995 to 1999. While built to
compete directly with Fords Thunderbird in the fast-growing
personal luxury market, the Riviera remained true to purpose as a
true gentlemans muscle car with the totally redesigned 1966-67
models. Somewhat larger with a new 119-inch wheelbase chassis, the
updated Riviera featured a lower, longer, wider overall presence
with a new fastback rear roofline and a clean profile with the
former vent widows eliminated by a new flow-through ventilation
system. A growing array of built-in safety features made these
great road cars even better, plus standard amenities including
power brakes and steering, automatic transmission, tilt steering
wheel, dual exhaust, and rich fully carpeted interiors with
top-quality upholstery combinations. Buicks 425 cubic-inch V-8
powered the Riviera, with 4-barrel carburation and 340
factory-rated horsepower enough to humble many other performance
cars in concert with carefully-engineered underpinnings and a
noticeable, top-quality feel. Priced from $4,408 new, the 1966
Riviera struck a chord with buyers, selling much better with 45,348
produced that year.Few of these American GT cars remain today and
fewer still possess the high originality, integrity, and beautiful
condition of this stunning Black-on-Black 1966 Buick Riviera. Never
restored and having had just one top-quality repaint, it retains
the original interior and features a wide array of standard and
optional equipment, including Positraction limited-slip rear axle,
air conditioning, power brakes, steering, windows, and front seats,
and tilt steering wheel. This beautifully preserved Riviera even
retains the original spare tire! A newer battery was installed
under the prior owners care. The standard 340 HP, 425 CI Wildcat
Buick V-8 engine and Super Turbine automatic transmission deliver a
great driving experience, along with a throaty rumble from the
Rivieras standard dual exhaust system. Both the engine and engine
compartment appear original, unmodified, and correct throughout.
Mileage stands at just 52k indicated miles and this Rivieras other
great features include a beautifully straight and proper body and
outstanding original wheels. Simply put, the Riviera is one of the
finest automotive designs and road cars of the 1960s, bar none.
