In 1963 there were 6,978 340hp L76 Corvettes built. It is common
knowledge that 49.2 percent of 1963 production was the model 837
split-window coupe. The extrapolation for 340hp coupes indicates
that approximately 3,437 340hp split-window coupes were built. The
1963 Sting Ray was a commercial success and hailed by the
automotive press as one of the best Corvettes of all time. This
1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window coupe is powered by its
original 327/340hp V8 engine mated to a 4-speed manual
transmission. It was body-on-restored and finished in its factory
original color of Silver Blue with nice chrome, whitewall tires and
an AM/FM radio. Photo documentation of the restoration is included.
The Corvette has been upgraded with a black leather interior,
cast-aluminum knock-off wheels and side pipes. A total of 10,594
split window coupes were produced in 1963. The Trim Tag and VIN tag
affixed to this example appear to be unaltered original GM issued
items that have never been off the vehicle. The Trim Tag also
reflects "H4," which is a production date that translates to the
fourth week of April 1963 and corresponds with the known production
time frame for this Split-Window of April 24, 1963. This Corvette
comes complete with a 6-page physical inspection report from
Corvette expert Roy Sinor.
