Vehicle Description
1991 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe
The origins of El Dorado lie deep in South America. And like all
enduring legends, the tale of El Dorado contains some scraps of
truth. When Spanish explorers reached South America in the early
16th century, they heard stories about a tribe of natives high in
the Andes mountains in what is now Colombia. When a new chieftain
rose to power, his rule began with a ceremony at Lake Guatavita.
Accounts of the ceremony vary, but they consistently say the new
ruler was covered with gold dust, and that gold and precious jewels
were thrown into the lake to appease a god that lived
underwater.
Seen in our hallowed halls of Classic Auto Mall we have a 1991
Eldorado with a mere 28,751 miles. WIth all the trappings
associated with a Caddy, conveniences abound, and luxury is
paramount in the materials that go into this car. The best
technology available can be seen in the blue LCD readouts, a
steering wheel airbag, and all push button controls.
Exterior
Beautiful pristine laser straight steel panels come together to
form the square design exterior of this luxury automobile. These
are all bathed in Crimson Red and are highlighted by a below the
beltline trim rail, which extends around and into the body matching
neoprene bumpers. A clean egg crate style grille is up front and is
flanked on either side by dual rectangular headlights. The power
sunroof (Astro-roof) is seen on top, and dual thin rectangular
chromed exhaust tips hang below the bumper. 16 inch American racing
polished wheels are on all 4 corners. All 4 original wheels are
also included so you can change the car's demeanor along with your
mood.
Interior
Beechwood would be your contrasting interior color, and it is in
the form of luxurious leather covered wide dual front bucket seats
with a padded center armrest in between, and a couch-like rear
bench. Both driver and passenger seats are power, and wide side
bolsters tend to grab you when you sit down. Continuing up to the
square and rectangle design dash we see a shift lever in a sea of
wood applique. This continues on the dash front which houses an all
digital gauge cluster, and various and sundry controls. The dash is
excellent, very clean and well cared for as is the gold carpeting
that floods the floors. A clean tight cloth headliner frames the
Astro-roof.
Drivetrain
Within a well preserved and slightly patina engine bay is the 4.9
Liter V8 power plant. This has electronic fuel injection, and a
4T60E 4-speed automatic, with a 2.93 axle.
Undercarriage
Slipping underneath, we notice a solid frame, floorpans and rockers
environment, with just a touch of some surface rust. Floorpans
still have some of the factory overspray of the exterior red on
them. Since the car is front wheel drive, there is a lack of a
drive shaft making its way rearward. Independent coil springs
suspension for the front, and the rear is air suspension. Power
disc brakes are all around, and this completes our tour of the
underneath.
Drive-Ability
With the low mileage one would expect this car to start right up,
and it did. We would also expect everything to work, and it did. It
ran beautifully, provided a smooth ride, and had good acceleration
and cruising. Only one thing it did not, and that is disappoint on
the luxury end.
Low miles, beautiful paint, and a plethora of conveniences and we
are skating with the haves, and if I power the windows closed, and
crank up the Delco Bose sound system, it's very easy to forget
about the have nots.
