Between 1959 and 1961 50,000 Austin Healey Bug Eyed Sprites were imported into the United States. Few are left and only just a few are in showroom shape and I am selling mine.
In 1960 as a 22 year old, I purchased a 1-year-old Bug Eye. Drove it for 3 years and then I traded it in for a big car. Fifty-three years later, I spent 4 months searching the USA for a completely restored Bug Eye in tiptop shape. They were difficult to find. I wanted to relive my youth while I had time to be youthful again, not spending time restoring an old rust bucket. The second owner of this car was in Indiana. He owned and stored the car for 34 years. His wife told him she would do his chores around the house (mow the lawn, carry out the garbage etc.) while he was to completely restore the Bug Eye. She told him he had 2 and a half years to complete the restoration as she wanted him to enter his restoration work in an area wide restoration contest and she wanted him to win first place. And he did.
After purchasing the car, I became long distance phone friends with Jim, the restorer. The above is where I got the info on his ownership of the Bug Eye.
