For Sale: 1985 BMW 528e in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

This 1985 BMW 528e is finished in champagne over a black leather interior and is powered by a 2.7L inline-6 paired with a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission.  The car was sold new southern California, where it resided until being relocated to Arizona in October 2020.  It is a fully restored E28 with a full repaint, reconditioned interior, and sorted mechanicals.  Equipment includes air conditioning, a sunroof, factory fog lamps, and a modern audio system.  Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, this 528e is now offered with receipts from the restoration and a clean CARFAX, sold on a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in champagne with black handles, mirrors, and trim, and it has undergone a complete restoration at a BMW certified repair facility.  Bodywork at the time included the repair of small dings as well as a full professional respray in the car’s factory color combination.  The windshield was replaced as well as other areas of the exterior trim with OEM BMW Parts.  The black grille is in good condition, as are the chrome "kidney" center grilles. The car is equipped with black impact bumpers front and rear and a center-mounted exhaust with dual tips.

Factory 14” bottlecap wheels are mounted to 195/70 tires on all four corners.  The suspension has been restored with new OEM components and bushings.

The interior is fitted with newly upholstered black leather seats and black carpet, and a replacement dash from the manufacturer.  The seat cushions were replaced with correct horsehair pieces ordered from Germany, and the headliner and door panels have been upholstered with black suede. The air conditioning system has been converted to a modern refrigerant, and the audio system has been upgraded with an Alpine head unit with AM/FM/CD capability.  A center is mounted between the seats and houses switches for the power windows and the shifter for the manual transmission with an M insignia shift knob.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames instrumentation, and it includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer.  Additional gauges are present for coolant temperature, fuel level, and fuel economy.  The six-digit odometer reads 248k miles, which are original to the vehicle.

The 2.7-liter B20B27 inline-6 has been compression-tested, and it received new spark plugs, wires, and gaskets.  The CARFAX report reflects extensive service work completed in October 2020, including replacement of drive belts, servicing of the A/C system, an oil and filter change, transmission mount replacement, replacement of the shift lever seal, replacement of the output shaft seal, and a check of the steering and suspension systems. All components have been replaced with OEM BMW parts and installed by a BMW ASE certified mechanic. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a new Getrag 5-speed manual transmission from a 1986 model year BMW and features a new clutch, new throwout bearing, and new fluids.

The CARFAX report indicates no accidents or damage on record. The sale includes receipts from the restoration work and the factory tool kit.

This 528 has had a Full restoration   Work performed at a BMW certified repair facility (receipts avail).  We went through the engine,  we did a compression test, replaced any worn items, plugs wires, gaskets etc. then we went through all the suspension parts and joints. replacing all with new. This vehicle has so many mounting points in the suspension and they were all worn. so we replaced them all. so first we made a reliable engine then made it drive like brand new. we then went through the body. We fixed small dents and repainted the entire car. replaced the windshield and any other trim items that had excessive wear. All the parts we replaced were with genuine BMW by a Certified BMW, ASE mechanic. At the time I had an E30 that needed a transmission so I pulled the transmission and put in a 1 year model newer GETRAG with a new clutch and throw out bearing. all new fluids were installed. I put the trans I pulled from the car into my E30. I ordered a new dash from Germany that took 7 months to get. it was installed along with console and dash parts needed to make it new again. The a/c system was converted and a stereo system was installed. I had a suede headliner installed including door inserts. I ordered all the original horsehair cushions from Germany and then had all the interior replaced. my total investment to this point is 27k, 10k of which was the interior alone. The 27k invested was mainly into parts replacement. I do not think the mileage is relevant after all the work we did. Most models in the market now that have less miles still need all those rotted suspension and bushings to drive like new. this one has already had it done. This vehicle is a gem.
