1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Car History
In 1958 Chevrolet built cars for enthusiasts that demanded
uncompromising speed and performance and the 1958 Chevrolet
Corvette, like the one we have here at Adventure Classics, offered
a near race-ready Corvette they made available at local dealerships
across the country, and at prices that made buying even the highest
end Corvette affordable.
Engine & Drivetrain
The engine in ours is a #3756519 small block Chevy 283 cubic inch 2
bolt V8 with the F127CQ stamped on the engine ID pad to show it was
a 230 horsepower engine.
It is dressed to appear original with a few exceptions like the
chrome Edelbrock open air cleaner assembly but has cast aluminum
finned valve covers with 'Corvette' script, Ram's Horn exhaust
manifolds, high-rise aluminum intake with the front-mount oil
filler tube and cap, four-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, chrome
ignition shielding, and with rare power steering, and it all sits
in a clean, detailed, and era correct engine compartment.
It is backed by a four-speed manual transmission that shifts very
smoothly and rides on great correct red painted steel wheels with
shiny chrome wheel covers and wide-whitewall tires.
Interior
The red and silver interior is just like new with silver twin
bucket seats, red carpet, floor mats, and door panels while all the
factory instruments which were freshly redesigned in 1958, are
there in the dash with a 160-mph speedometer which dominated most
of the dashboard, while a smaller 6000 rpm tachometer was placed
ahead of it on the steering column.
Flanking the tachometer on each side was a pair of standard
instrument gauges that monitored fuel levels, oil pressure, engine
temperature and battery charge.
Emerging from the dashboard and mating with the center console is a
narrower, vertical console which housed the heater controls, the
clock and an optional "Wonder Bar" signal-seeking radio.
The red leather wrapped steering wheel, chrome shifter and ivory
shift ball, a nice-fitting silver convertible top that matches the
silver coves on the side and the siler buckets inside.
Exterior
Most collectors will agree that the 1958 Corvette design is
timeless and widely recognized, and ours sports the bright red
paint scheme set off by the silver painted coves on the side.
Fit and finish are nice throughout, with tight door gaps and smooth
panels. The body looks great with the hood louvers and trunk trim
that were exclusive to the 1958.
Conclusion
Early Corvettes like the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette we have here at
Adventure Classics are highly collectible and it's easy to see why
with our shiny red one.
This Corvette will be the center of attention anywhere it goes.
