This 1973 Buick Riviera is one of the most daring designs put to
sheetmetal. So when it retains its big V8 and its premium features,
and also offers a custom appearance, it creates one of the best
all-round classics... and it's available right now for a terrific
price.
This car knows how to make an entrance. The factory-correct
burgundy paint was given a quality respray later in life. So it
retains a nice gloss that loves to let the sunshine highlight the
car's style. And there's a lot to check out on the 3rd-gen Riviera.
The pointed front end is even more pronounced on this example
because there's special split front bumper and extended grille to
really show off this car's style. There's a design line that starts
here and flows outward on the long hood until it melts with the
door line. The rear fenders have of one the sportiest kick-ups ever
given to a car. And it all flows toward the back where you have
Corvette Sting Ray glass. And we all love how the edges of the rear
taper inward to draw even more attention the special boat tail
rear. This was the final year for such a bold design, and so it's
great to have one that looks this special. And as a true premium
Buick, you even have the right touches of classic elegance, like
the vinyl roof and Cragar wire wheels.
The deep red presentation continues inside, and so it's very cool
to have the survivor-level Oxblood interior. The button-top seats
have a great period-correct look, and there's plenty of wood-like
trim on the doors and dash. So it truly feels like a classic
American. Another great trait of a vintage Buick is plenty of room
for family and friends. But all you need to do is fold down the
front armrest to remind you this is a personal luxury cruiser.
You'll slip behind the three-spoke steering wheel, and that gives
you a commanding view of all the features that surround you. It's a
driver-oriented setup that includes power windows, power locks, and
cruise control. You even have factory air conditioning and the
Sonomatic AM radio there for display. You can service these two
items to have them function again, but for now, they really
complete the time capsule feeling inside.
Under the hood is the bold red block of the massive 455 cubic-inch
V8. Buick didn't make them any bigger, and so these have a
reputation for serious power and torque. This is an era-correct
block and many of the factory correct pieces are still in place.
The motor inhales deeply from a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor,
and it exhales with a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. You'll
really enjoy taking this Riviera out on the town, because the TH400
three-speed automatic transmission is known for being both stout
and smooth. Plus, there's power steering, power brakes, front
discs, and deep tread on good cruising tires.
Complete with owner's manual, this is a classic coupe with a big V8
and a striking design. It's a package that you'd expect to pay a
ton more to get, so you know this deal will be going fast. Call
