This 1992 Porsche 968 Convertible is a low-mileage example with
only 6,256 original miles and is extremely rare being one of just
2,248 convertibles imported into the United States and Canada from
1992-95.
This 968 is heavily optioned with climate control, cruise control,
power seats, power mirrors, power windows, power door locks, heated
mirrors and cruise control. The Porsche 968 is of front-engine and
rear-wheel-drive configuration. Although it is considered by many
to be the third-generation successor to the original 924 and 944,
the 968 shares very little with its predecessors, having more than
80 percent of its mechanical components significantly modified or
replaced. Hence, Porsche engineers felt that the changes were
substantive enough to give it the new designation of 968. The 968
is powered by an inline-4 engine with a 3L displacement that
produces 237 HP and is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. These
cars were beautifully balanced with a near-neutral, front-to-rear
weight distribution, and the handling is superb. Although the
Porsche 968 was applauded by the motoring press in its day for its
quick acceleration and sublime handling, it had a limited appeal
within the Porsche community relative to the 911. That limited
cult-like following combined with a very low production number-just
a total of 4,665 units imported into the United States and
Canada-makes finding an excellent example an exercise in futility.
Presented in silver with a subtle Linen interior and black soft
top, this is a fine example of the Porsche 968 breed.
These cars have recently taken a dramatic and sharp escalation in
value, especially cars like this particular 968 which presents
beautifully in showroom condition with a factory-issued Certificate
of Authenticity. Contact Steve Thiel at 702-383-6080 or
