This highly original and outstanding 1968 Porsche 912 was completed
on May 6, 1968 and imported by Porsche of America Corporation in
Teaneck, New Jersey. It was sold to its first owner on 6/18/68 by
Connecticut Volkswagen and Porsche dealer, Ted Trudon, Inc., with
35 miles on the odometer. From the original date of purchase to
2005, an extremely detailed log was kept by the owners and the
entries included everything from service work, parts purchases,
cosmetic freshening, driving impressions and winter storage
procedures. Each entry in the more than twenty-five handwritten
pages includes the date and odometer reading. In addition to the
notes, another sixty pages of receipts are on hand and although the
notes end in 2005, the receipts go all the way to present day. In
the past year, this 912 received a service and tune-up that
included new spark plugs, a full chassis lubrication, new sway bar
bushings, new shocks, new brakes all around and the clock was
repaired. On the road, it feels very solid, drives and brakes
straight and is well-tuned.
In its present condition, the car presents extremely well and looks
a lot more restored than original, however the reverse is true. The
body is in excellent condition without any noticeable dents, dings
or rust. The Sand Beige paintwork has been sympathetically restored
as needed and quite a bit of the exterior is wearing original
paintwork. Meter readings range from 2.8 mils to just over 10 (a
mil is .001/inch) and are only slightly higher in the left rear
corner. The exterior trim is very good except for minor pitting in
the front quarter windows. The glass, lights and reflectors all
show very well. The wheels and hubcaps have chrome that is even and
bright and the Vredestein Sprint Classics have a lot of tread and
are from 2017. The interior is mostly original and excellent for
being so, which is good because many 1968-only interior features
are not currently available. This is an exciting opportunity to
purchase a 912 that has it all - condition, historical
documentation and a matching numbers driveline.
