1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
Built in the Detroit, MI plant and then delivered to NY, this Caprice Classic was purchased brand new from Whiteman Chevrolet in Glenns Falls, NY. in 1989, the first owner drove it sparingly, putting roughly 35K miles on it in their first 14 years of ownership. The 2nd, current owner, purchased the car from the first, having known them and the car since new.
She has owned the car for the last 16 years and it was always garage kept, even with the first owner. It has never really seen snow despite living in northern NY state, as both owners didn't really drive it during the winter months. The car currently has just 67000 miles on the odometer.
The current/2nd owner has since moved "south" to CT to be with her family and isn't driving the car any longer. She has decided it's time for her Classic to go to a new home; hopefully, someone who will care for her as much as the previous two owners have.
When delivered from Detroit, this car was loaded with RPO codes, however, in 89 they coded out everything from the color of the seat belts to the idiot light cluster.
Some of the notable items include:
5.0L/305 CI V8 with Throttle Body fuel injection (roughly 150 HP), backed by a TH200 4 speed O/D automatic transmission put the power through a 2:73-1 rear axle.
The paint is Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic, with a dark blue vinyl top over Very Dark Sapphire Blue cloth/velour interior. The top is in great condition, the paint is a little tired in spots and would wake up considerably with a paint correction/color sand/polish.
The interior is near perfect with the only issues being a droopy headliner and some rubbing around the glove box handle. The interior is rounded out with a manually adjusted split bench; power steering; power brakes (disc-F, aluminum drums-R);carpeted floor mats; dual reading/courtesy lamps; tilt wheel; A/C (needs an R12 recharge); power antenna; Extended Range, 4 speaker, AM/FM Cassette stereo; electric rear window defogger; intermittent wipers; cruise control and remote mirrors.
The car was also optioned for the cold weather of northern NY with an HD battery and HD 100 amp alternator.
The Caprice Classic was the top line tourer and is equipped with the FE1 soft ride suspension, plus some added bling in the way of extra side trim, wire wheel look hubcaps, electric trunk opener and trunk and hood lid lights.
Despite the otherwise posh ride, the car has manual roll up windows.
Due to the care of the first two owners, this car is totally rust/rot free.. the underside is nearly clean enough to eat off of, having been specially undercoated to protect from northern NY salted roads. The tires were last replaced in 97, so she will need new shoes.
She runs and drives great and is ready for the next owner.
Despite producing several hundred thousand, when was the last time you saw one, especially in this condition?
Asking price is $5200, you'll have the only one at the next cars and coffee.
