Vehicle Description
2005 Chrysler Crossfire Convertible
The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, two-seat sports car
that was sold by Chrysler and built by Karmann of Germany for the
2004 to 2008 model years. Developed during the union of Daimler and
Chrysler, the two-seater is based on the Mercedes-Benz R170
platform which shares 80% of its components with the first
generation SLK. The second generation SLK was built on a new R171
platform starting in the 2005 model year; the R170 platform was
essentially handed down to Chrysler for use in building the
Crossfire. The name "Crossfire" refers to the two character lines
that run from front to rear along the body sides - their crease
directions cross below the mirrors on the door panels. Conceived
during the period of Chrysler's ownership by Daimler-Benz, the name
also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.
For consignment, a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire in convertible form.
With it's design similarities courtesy to its merger company
Mercedes-Benz, even being built on the same platform as the first
generation SLK, its sporty looks carry on to today. Only built
until 2008, not very many examples exist, but we will not at this
time use the word rare! This car has been well kept, always
garaged, and meticulously maintained. Powered by a 3.2 liter OHV V6
is not shabby either. An enjoyable sports car, rolling down the
highway with a smile on your face, and the top down? We do note
that a minor impact with a deer now has this car carrying a
reconstructed title.
Exterior
Reminiscent of the SLK of yore, this ribbed hood long front end
teardrop edged headlights car even has the side vents on the front
quarters with horizontal chromed trim spears just like the
Deutschland original SLK inspiration. Bathed in Graphite Gray in
excellent condition. A horizontal ribbed swept back grille and body
matching integrated bumper all rounded over nicely creates the
slick "through the air" bow. A wide satin silver windshield
surround accentuates the swept back look, and a canvas convertible
all rounded over in black and working its way to the rear glass on
to the deck, aero slicing is always the key. Speaking of which a
thin spoiler adds to the sportiness and pops up on demand
electronically. Taillights and another integrated body matching
curved rear bumper, with dual centrally located squared exhaust
exits. Here the German influence appears more Porsche Carrera, but
still is distinctly Chrysler. 18 inch and 19" 7 wide spoke star
wheels are wrapped by BF Goodrich tires which are like new, and on
all 4 corners.
Interior
Inside within the confines of the simple design door panels,
presenting in dark slate gray and mixing throughout with light gray
inside panel with satin chromed metal pulls. We are awed by high
back two tone stitched see high back 8-way power, heated, leather
buckets for the two passengers. These have a wavy pattern light
gray for the inserts, and smooth dark slate side supporting
bolsters. A sexy silver and white molded plastic console races
forward to the dash, has a glovebox in back and also houses the
parking brake lever and shifter. As it rises to the dash all
"aluminum" plastic parts create a central panel and a machine age
look. Here we have the climate controls, a factory AM/FM/CD digital
stereo. More toggles are present and a cigarette lighter. To the
dash front where we see green backlit instruments in analog format
with digital display inserts to show the odometer and clock all
under a cool gray padded dash top. With the push of a button the
top raises and lowers smoothly and quietly.
Drivetrain
Within the original clean factory engine bay sits a 3.2 liter fuel
injected V6 producing 215hp. On the back is a 6-speed manual
transmission which is a Chrysler NSG370 type. All clean, mean and
presenting in very clean and well maintained condition.
Undercarriage
Extremely clean and well cared for with no rust, surface or
otherwise, seen anywhere underneath. A stainless steel dual exhaust
snakes it way rearward to the central dual exit. Independent coil
spring suspension is on front, and a 5 link coil spring suspension
on the back. Power disc brakes are reserved for all 4 corners. No
runs, drips or errors under here!
Drive-Ability
As expected it fired right up, and on the test track performed
without a hitch. Smooth powerful acceleration, good handling, and
the 6-speed took up to cruise speed, and then some. Straight bias
free panic stopping, and all functions were operational at the time
of my test drive. Keep in mind this is a reconstructed title
Emulating a Mercedes SLK is not the worst thing that can happen and
this car morphs that design into a distinctive Chrysler American
sports car feel, retaining the technology from the Benz. Nice
design, and low drag coefficient, snappy interior and some good
power. We have a WIENER!..uh sorry a WINNER! (I got caught up in my
German Language) Schnell!
